Redline?????

how often do you guys hit the redline...or get close to redline on your G's?

i have the TS ecu and my optimum shift point is at 6900 rpm. i think almost everytime i get onto the freeway, i hit at least 6700...in at least a couple of gears. think this is bad? how bad? or maybe good? hahaha.

Re: Redline?????

Its fine to hit the optimal points in ur car but .. Why? Theres no need to fully utilize ur engine power @ high revs juss driving... Waste of gas if you ask me.

Re: Redline?????

I've never gone above 6k. I want to take it to the track and see exactly how much different there is between that and redline.

Re: Redline?????

if uve never passed 6k...when you take it to the track, your ecu may have adapted to driving "slow" and will not allow your car to do as well as it can. stupid ecu.

Re: Redline?????

NUTTY, one thing to remember is to tune your shifting for the circumstance. During normal driving for best gas mileage and smoothness keeping it in the 3000-4000 range should be fine. For speed shifting and performance (my opinion) shifting around 5800RPM. Believe it or not the Torque curve actually starts to level off in this range and drops near the highest output of HP at around 6200-6500 RPM. In my experience keeping your shift points in the optimum HP AND TORQUE range is the best for quick smooth shifts. Since you have the TS ECU those have been changed slightly but the same rule applies. My butt is pretty good at telling me when the torque is falling and the engine is winding out too far. Also looking at a dyno graph of your car with the new ECU can help as well. I think TS does this after the ECU install, correct?

Re: Redline?????

I thought that whole ecu thing was for 5ATs only.

Re: Redline?????

Trentacinque,
If you are refering to the RESET of the ECU then yeah for the most part it effects the 5AT more. But both can benefit from the reset as the ECU's learning function hasn't had a chance to mess the with Fuel to Air Ratios in order to get better gas mileage and what not. What Nutty was refering to has to do with his ECU being REPROGRAMMED. When TS > Techno Square reprogrammed his ECU they decrease the amount that of learning and adjusting the ECU can do. This helps create a more stable baseline for mod's and add's I think 5 HP, Raises the Redline to 7200RPM, and removes the Top speed governer. You can find more info at the link below. Peace.

Re: Redline?????

Whoa. Didn't know all of that. Guess I'll have to add that to my regular maintenance.

Re: Redline?????

actually, i got my 6900 rpm optimum shift point by looking at my dyno charts after my ecu install. =) and i can usually feel it in the butt dyno as well...with the music off that is.
