I did that too.. but the hard part is paying the dealer to re-program the new TPS that I used to replace the broken one. I heard its costs $$$.

TPS systems are a joke. They only became popular after the whole Ford Explorer tire issues.

They are a rediculous way for the dealer to rip you off. Did you know that on cars that have rotatable tires, that the TPS sensors are supposed to be re-calibrated every rotation? Same goes for when we replace our tires.

Plus, usually the TPS only tells you when you are majorly low on air--i.e. you've been driving around on seriously low tire pressure for some time or you've had a catastrophic failure (the former shouldn't happen if you check your tire pressure once in awhile and the latter you should notice the difference in feel).

TPS sensors were popularized by the Explorer issue whereby people were running around on low pressure tires for long periods of time without caring and this eventually weakened the tires to the hefty weight of the SUVs.

I haven't had mine on since I put on snow tires. Don't waste your money with these things.

Actually the government is requiring them since low tire pressure causes poor fuel mileage & more pollution. I've been told they performed studies in some states--when someone would get their car inspected air pressure was checked & logged. They found a large % were underinflated.

I also remember that the investigation agencies ruled that the recommended pressure on the Explorers was too low.
