Re: Plugs

Sounds like a seal is bad it shouldn't be doing that. Get it checked it's easily replaceable.

Re: Plugs

Let me guess, in the pursuit for more power, you opted to get new plugs?

If that's the case, don't fall into the hype! NO spark plug "alone" can and will increase power in ANY WAY period! Don't fall for splitfires claims or the quad tip plugs. Bottom line is, electricty will ALWAYS follow the path of least resistance, thus only one tip / edge ever has a solid arc.

I have built a handful of monster V8's including a 600+ ponie supercharger big block, and noticed the engine ran its best with your cheap-o $1.50 AC Delcos! That's the honest truth!

The new platinum plugs are great for long life, but if you're looking for power gains from swapping plus, thats like looking to find a hooker at church... not gonna be there....

Re: Plugs

Uhhh, no.. I opted for new plugs because I like iridium plugs better than platinum plugs, I already know that plugs alone won't give me much in power, but thanks anyway.

Re: Plugs

Now what would make you prefer Iridium plugs over Platinum plugs? Becouse its a stronger material, making it last longer? Is a 100k service interval (for platinum plugs) not long enough for you? Would 120k be better (as stated for various Iridium plugs)...

Sure you can name a dozen pro's over Platinum plugs, but $ for $ and taking into consideration the oem Platinum plugs don't need to be serviced for such a long interval, I can't see why anyone would spend the time and the $$$ in swapping plugs on a G, unless you're at like 80,90,100k miles? It just doesn't make sense to me...

If you don't mind me asking what did you pay for the Iridium plugs?

Re: Plugs

You should stick with the plugs that the engine engineers designed it to use.

I put platinum plugs in a '98 Grand Cherokee when it was time for a tune up. The stock plugs were copper. After a couple thousand miles, the engine started running like crap, would stall, and the check engine light came on. We limped it to the dealer. The problem? The spark plugs. They put copper plugs in and it's been fine since -- said those engines don't run well with platinum.

I'd never heard of that before, and I'm not sure why it mattered, but it did make a difference.

Re: Plugs

i got to tell you... i have heard many horror stories about the use of aftermarket spark plugs. Electrode coming out and getting into the engine, motor warranty being voided, etc, etc.

The nissan engineers spend hundreds of thousands of dollars testing and determining what they feel is best for their (your) engine. They have access to any spark plug they want, within reason......I'm just not going to second guess them.

Re: Plugs

The only reason in my mind to change plugs, which I am doing, is for nitrous (or other forced induction), where a colder copper plug is usually better suited. I'm putting in the stock NGK except in copper form and 1 step colder. Otherwise I agree, leave the stock ones in there.

Re: Plugs

thanks to those who actually answered my question about oil on the plugs when I changed them.
For all others, why do care why I changed my plugs, I asked a specific question, at least I thought I did.
NGK makes the plugs for our cars, I replaced them with NGK iridium plugs, why? because I wanted iridium plugs, why change the grill, why put a CAI, dual exhaust, or anything else for that matter. Why? because you felt like it, you wanted something different, Its your car, something that works or looks better (in your opinion). So if people can do all this to thier cars, I can change my plugs on my car.
All I wanted to know is if anyone else had the same simptom as me, that's it.
