Projector Retrofit VI: X5 revision

This is the 6th G35 coupe retrofit. All that is left is to pop them in the oven and seal them up.

Projectors are X5 projectors with custom cutoff shields (which allows me to quickly do washer modding) with purple tinted clear lenses. These projectors came out of the original retrofit, and they were modified to sharpen the cutoff.

Housing is blacked out.

No modification was done to the rear of the light, it's still intact.

The purple tint gives a nice color in the housing, but the beam color is unchanged. Both lights have 3M clear masking over them for protection, but that's why sometimes the inside lines get distorted.

I'm going to try get these out of my house within the next 2 weeks. There's too much stuff here. 5 headlights, 5 ballasts, a bunch of OEM HID bulbs, not counting the set on the car currently.

After this, I just have one more set to do, then I'll be done with retrofits. At least until I get my next car. I have a few sets of clear lenses lying around in anticipation of projector modding.

Do you apply the protect film after you completed the retros? My stock headlights now have the protect film but need to remove it before I bake the headlights.

You don't have to remove the protective film. I've baked quite a few lights with these films, eyelids, or overlays. They hold up fine. At least at 250....

The projector was modded with a clear lens and a curved cutoff shield. The stanley projectors like TSX, S2000, and TL have curved shields. The E46, E39, and valeos have relatively flat shields. I think a curved shield helps your cutoff towards the sides.

Per another member's request, I'm reuploading some of the pics. I've since sold this retrofit, so I don't know the status of it.

I don't even remember which pics were in the original thread.

Just before sealing.

Cutoff from about 12 feet.

Cutoff from maybe 120 feet. The Z line is still clearly visible.

The lens. This was using stock 4100K bulbs.

nice. Great work E_K. Should've painted the reflector at the low beam, it's visible behind the shroud.

Man...

I really want the Clearance Strip on my 06 Headlights

I would prefer that over the "06 City Light"

.

That's the first thing I noticed too.

What size are those lenses and where did you get them? Color is great for oem bulbs.

I thought about painting the reflector, but with the purple lens it would reflect a purple color back onto the reflector from certain angles. So I just left it as such. I'm supposed to do another set, so that I can get rid of the extra lights sitting in my living room, but I've been preoccupied with other matters.
