New guy on the G block
After hanging out at this forum for months, I FINALLY have my G. I was only able to test drive the Automatic but the 6MT is amazing! I like it better than my 2000 S4. It seems to handle better and I love the cocoon feeling in the cockpit.
Any quick suggestions on the best launch technique? I read the following: VDC off, 1500-1800 Rpms, fast up on clutch (no drop). I tried it with VDC off at about 5k RPMs (used to my S4) and dropped it...made quite seen as I burned through the intersection! Will never do that again!! Anyway, nothing more to say but "HI".

Just the one. While I don't think it is a good idea to run it flat out all the time, and plan to stick closely to the suggested break-in period, I also know that technology has come a LONG way and what used to be true in the past is probably not today. For these reasons, and because I have to have fun in my new car, an occassional stomp won't kill the car in my opinion. Again...this is just MY PERSONAL OPINION. Everyone else is entitled to their own. Given that engineers have said breakin periods are BS today, I stand behind my decision to stretch G's horses now and again!!

Re: New guy on the G block
They spin the engine at various rpm's from the factory, and the true break-in period of the engine is about 500 miles...this is only to let the gears settle in. After 500-600 miles, you can pretty much start driving how you want. During the first 500 rpm's, you can take it to redline in any gear, just don't beat on it (such as what you did, dropping the clutch at 5K rpm's), but hey it's your car. Congrats on the car, and enjoy.

Thanks. I knew I shouldn't have done it but the sun was out, the music was rockin', and I just couldn't help myself! My new best friend did not protest one bit at the move from what I could tell. Let's just hope they built these things well!

LOL!!! How true I didn't do burn outs, but I did 140mph after only about 700 miles. So I guess I'm guilty as well......

Re: New guy on the G block
Your doing 140mph in the break in period? Sorry...couldn't resist. I would bet EVERYONE who has this car is guilty of some sort of break-in "no no" if they think about it. Otherwise, why would you buy this car!??! Of course, I could just be more impatient than most. Oh well...it sure is fun!!
Re: New guy on the G block
DUUUDDE, You had an S4 QUATTRO man. The G is RWD and you can't just REV that high an dump the clutch! He He. My good friend has a stage 3 A4 and does the same thing to achieve the "quattro launch". Big no no with this car though. In fact alot of people whom first bought this car have had to adjust to all that power in the rear cuz' she'll break loose REAL quick. I love it. I would take it a little easy though just till the rings seat. Didn't wanna wait for the new S4? I think that might be my next car. Peace.

Re: New guy on the G block
I heard rumors of an S4 Cabriolet that would be worth the wait if true. Would definitely be my new car IF it happens. That said, I am really enjoying the RWD. Quattro enables crazy turns in most all weather situations but it does not give you the same rush. Maybe I'll change my tune after driving the G for a while and be ready for Quattro again. At the end of the day, all these cars are super fun and you can't really go wrong. Enjoy!!!!!!!!
Re: New guy on the G block
I saw the S4 drop top at the Frankfurt car show last month and it was pretty sweet. I'm not sure if it'll make it to the US though...We'll see. It'd really be nice it Audi made an RS-6 type coupe.
