Diamond Graphite or Black Obsidian coupe?
Re: Diamond Graphite or Black Obsidian coupe?
Here's a pic of my DG from the NICO meet this past weekend. Before the detail spray. After the detail it was even sexier
Edited by davey2003 on 10/21/03 09:19 PM.

Re: Diamond Graphite or Black Obsidian coupe?
I am also having the color dilemma - those were both my primary choices, but then someone in my apt. complex got I DG and now I have the chance to see it at different times of the day - my opinion is that it is just too dull of a color for me...as for black, I have a black car now (only a 2000) and it looks like crap already - and that's with me putting in my fair share of weekends...
I have now decided that I am going to go with one of the other silver colors - DP or BS - they both look awesome on the G (much shinier finish) but the outside color that I choose will probably be dependent on the interior color I want - BS and graphite and DP and willow go hand in hand - I think I'm going to go with the BS and slap some gunmetal LE37T's on there to give it the steathier look... whatever you do, make sure that it's something your going to be happy with 4 or 5 years down the road...

Re: Diamond Graphite or Black Obsidian coupe?
If you are going to modified your car after, get the DG. It shows the body line of the car better. And more recognizable in the dark. I saw a Black coupe today which initially i thought it is a Corolla until i get close to it.
If you have time to wash your car every weekend, and don't want to do some aftermarket modification (exterior), then you might want to consider the Black.
hey, how about Ivory Pearl, i think it's the best color!

Re: Diamond Graphite or Black Obsidian coupe?
I just got my 04' Coupe. I originally had the 03' Sedan in G. Fire. I got totalled last month by some guy who ran a red light and hit me. He left his pontiac sunfire. It was like a old rusty car and it killed the G35. He fled the scene. But anyway, like other people said the Black is hard to keep clean. I've had it about a week now and have washed it twice. I looks great after a wash. But when its dirty it doesn't look to hot. But i'm the type of person who always keeps a clean car. So if your like that get the black. Anyone who owns a G35 should be washing there car at least once a week or after every time it rains.
Re: Diamond Graphite or Black Obsidian coupe?
Swirl marks on black cars are a thing of the past. Crystal Guard, Zaino and 100 other products on the market make maintaining the paint appearance simple and easy. I CG'd my car three times, each one week apart, and have washed it four times since with no CG, and still don't see any swirls. Next wash it gets another treatment (about 20 minutes of extra work during the wash).
Black needs more maintenance because it shows dirt and dust more easily, but it's worth it. Silver is nice too, but I still think nothing beats a black coupe at sunset.

03.5 Coupe - Black/Willow, 6MT, Premium, Navi, Aero, Sat

Re: Diamond Graphite or Black Obsidian coupe?
Yeah people keep bringing up swirls but any decent polish will make them disappear in a hurry. Wax your car once or twice a month and swirls are a non-issue.
Re: Diamond Graphite or Black Obsidian coupe?
That is, if you got time and patient to do the wax and polish. It takes a long time zaino the car. Not a lot of people can do it at a monthly basis. Plus, in place like Canada, how can you wax the car while it's -20 Celcius? Now this is an issue....
They are both great color (actually i liked the Ivory pearl the most), but i just want to see the bodyline of my car better and don't want to worry about washing waxing polishing my car every month to keep it clean and non-swirls. (Imagine if you just wash your black coupe, and it suddenly rain...... it gets really dirty again..) So if you are not doing any exterior mods, and live in place that doesn't rain as often, and have the time to wash your car in a bi-weekly basis and waxing in a monthly basis, you might want to consider black, else, DG will save you hell lots of time and you won't have to worry about it's being dirty even after rainning anymore.

Re: Diamond Graphite or Black Obsidian coupe?
I had the DG on order... for along while I went by the dealership at night and during the day to look at the OB and DG in different lights.
What I found is that in the the direct sunlight the DG has alot of color transitions from dark grey to silvery to dark grey .. very nice, BUT in the shade or in a overcast day, the color has no real transition and appears a bit flatter than I liked. My bud had the nerve to call it corrolla grey, which made me quite upset and reconsider my choice.
I compared the OB and DG in a showroom, the OB tends to hide the lower portions more, sorta hiding the FULL shapeliness of the car as opposed to the DG but NOT TOTALLY, the black looked more like a porsche from the back 3/4 shot where the front seems to slope down more. ....
the black also reflected the light very well in all aspects of weather and conditions, BUT with that in mind, yes it may be shinier but after it rains the spots are more apparent if not hidden than compared to the DG
I dont wash my car too much, and yes it does look sooo black when clean and schweet. the way to beat swirls in not to wash the car in a swirling motion... wash it bumper to windshield... floor to roof and clean the mit often... and yes wax .. but the way in which you wash it makes the biggest difference, I have had all dark colored cars and not till this one did I ever wash it this way, and it makes the biggest difference.
sorry to confuse you more.... I sure know I was ... but went with black.... if I was to do it again... I would get DG... well, no OB. hmm hard choice.

Re: Diamond Graphite or Black Obsidian coupe?
I agree....DP with willow, and BS with graphite. I'm going for graphite interior with ???? exterior.
I'm not planning on doing many mods....perhaps lip kit, K&N, some minor interior stuff and clear corners from Infiniti Japan.
I have been visiting my local dealer, and comparing both colors. By now, he must think I'm a real nut case !!! Oh well.
You see, once you get the performance pack +aero pack + spoiler + M6 etc....ALL the colors look great : IP, DG, BO, BS, DP even CB and TB !!!
As far as washing is concerned, I predict 1wash/week, monthly wax, and tend to agree that paint protection yearly will avoid swirl marks.
The quest continues....

The California Car Duster is only for dusting the outside dude.

I must have missed the memo on that one. I've got one and use it only for the interior (except on the carpets and the fuzzy bit between the rear seats, where it leaves bits of red lint). Works great.
