oh.. and I raced a buddy of mine in an 05' TL with an intake and a "b" pipe, and it was a pretty one sided race. You decide on who one..
I think one of your main problems is that you're holding the rpm's and letting the clutch out completely. It's not an awd.. I was taught to do more of a "sudden drop" clutch launch on my 02 wrx. Works on a 4wd because all the tires will grab.. not on a rwd. Feather and i'm sure you'll see a difference next time.

ok well heres what im assuming i should be doing on a launch:
1. hold clutch down right b4 friction point
2. hold rpms at around 2500
3. release clutch till friction point,(not all the way)
4. allow tires to grab road, and release the clutch
ok well heres what im assuming i should be doing when POWER SHIFTING:
1. launch vehicle in first
2. when shifting to second, do not release gas,
3. keep throttle half way depressed,
4. depress the clutch half way
5. shift to second while keeping throttle half way depressed
now i needa learn how to revmatch so that i can down shift

DO NOT POWER SHIFT!!!!!wait till you now the car a little more and you are shifting faster to power shift you need to shift real fast if you don’t your motor will not like it get you launch down packed first before you go into power shifting.
Don’t take it the wrong way I just don’t want you to cause damage to your car.

Oh and the myth of the 6mt being faster than the 5at..... i beat my friend in his 06 6mt coupe all the time in my 05 5at sedan.

finally a good thread with good info, i am having the same problems with launching. this i smy technique tell me where i should improve
1. rev the engine to around 2500 and hold it
2. pull the clutch out slowly but than my tires spin like crazy
also i smell like clutch burning
3. i floor it to abouth 6 because i have an 04 and i heard its better not to
to limit and shift not power shift, my tires squeel again.
the g feels fast but i feel like im not shifting properly or lauching properly, anyone got any advice.

if u launch with 2500 rpm with feathering the clutch u shouldn't get wheel spin, but if u do u have to play with the throttle pedal to eliminate it.

so..... i held rpms at 1500 in first gear... then at take off, i released the clutch fully. my car peeled a little then flew.... i shifted to second at around 7500 rpms and still i dont feel a boost in speed over my old automatic...

No offense, what are you doing driving stick if you dont know how to use common sence?
First of all, I launch at 1500 everytime on my SLOW daily driving. That has to be a joke.
Second, I think you better look at your RPM's again because the redline isnt at 7500 RPM's.
Its only a matter of time before something terrible goes wrong with your knowledge in 6MT

I dunno but I don't peel out when I drive from 1500 rpm...
Also, I don't know how to "explain" to you how to launch, but all I know is, you need practice and after a while you will "feel" the car enough to know when to launch and how to release the clutch... written instructions won't help you too much

I too learned manual on my 6MT, but seriously man, its not rocket science. The best advice for a race launch is to...
1) Rev upto 2.5K rpm and hold it there
2) When the whistles blow, release the clutch halfway by feathering it (release slowly, not too slowly or you will burn the f*ck out of your clutch, but also do not dump it)
3) Once you feel you have caught full traction, your foot should be basically off the clutch and your gas should be floored. You dont floor the gas if you dont have 100% traction. You should have minimal tire spin if done correctly
4) You have an 06 6MT, use every single bit of your higher rpm. You have a 7100RPM redline, not 7500 buddy. The first line you see in the '7' region, is the actual rev limiter, once you hit that, you aint gaining anymore power. Shift at 7100 on every gear, and you should be able to eat that slow a.ss TL.
5) Try to have a quarter tank at most when you race, anything more is extra weight that isnt needed. Now go out and practice.
