Exclamation my 2006 6mt coupe lost to a 05 acura tl stock :(..sum1 teach me to drive a stick ...

ok well sorry for this post to all those against speeding, while owning fast sports cars.

i used to own a 04 5at coupe, i have a strip of land where me and my friends goto drag.... no ppl or cars...just open paved roads... SAFE

we maintain fair distance

on my old 04 5at coupe i used to rip everyone i raced, including 645s, s2000, tls, clk430s and a bunch of other cars.

i just got a new 06 gmt coupe, im fairly new to driving manual but ive got it covered over the past 2 months......

Heres my situation... i cant seem to get into 1st gear quick enough and start moving fast like an auto would do.... when trying to punch it in 1st i experience a sort of delay in the first few rpms. (maybe i have poor clutch skills)... i was told that the fastest way to race a stick shift car is to launch..
so..... i held rpms at 1500 in first gear... then at take off, i released the clutch fully. my car peeled a little then flew.... i shifted to second at around 7500 rpms and still i dont feel a boost in speed over my old automatic...

just to see how well im doing on a 6mt, i had my friend on a stock 05 automatic TL line up with me... (i used to murder him on my old 5at) i launched in first, griped the road and then we were off.........................he had me by a cars length.

I know the 6mts are supposodly quicker, and maybe im not doing something right... but even for daily driving how do i get into first gear and take off in maximum speed wihtout any shacking or delay ( i also tend to hold the clutch too long to avoid ahscking and jerkin) ...... can some one please give me some advise.... im starting to miss my auto... what am i doing wrong please advise meee

u know u redline at 7200 right???? launch at 2-2.5k next time, once the clutch starts to catch floor it.

the cluth engages LATE early so be sure u account for that

good luck form now on dude, dont go back to auto unless your uing it as a commuter or anything, ive only driven stic through traffic, for fun, for everything. just like having hte control

First of all you must have been racing in water if you are peeling out. Unless you turn your VDC off there is no way you will spin your wheels especially at a 1500 launch. 2nd I wouldnt suggest trying to switch gears at 7500 rpms. G's redline at 7000. A launch from 1500 is a waste I would try 3500. I've had a 2000 Accord, 2002 RSX-S, 2005 RSX-S and now my 05 G and the G's clutch is the smoothest I've ever driven. I would just get your auto back.

try launching at 2500 or so rpm's and feathering the clutch before you start dumping it. Get a feel for launching and after enough try's you'll be able to launch at over 2500rpms without spinning your wheels. of course, VDC always off.

Oh and the myth of the 6mt being faster than the 5at..... i beat my friend in his 06 6mt coupe all the time in my 05 5at sedan.

^^ then your friend cant drive 6mt. ive never lost to an G35 AT. Listen just practice your launch keep your clutch mid level to the point where its almost let free and your moving forward a little, then push it a little down get a good feel and rev to around 2500-3000. When race starts drop your clutch and floor it. Change gears at around 7350-7450 and everytime you switch, switch FAST and drop clutch like your foots touching fire. if you do it right you should hear your tires chirp, do the same for 2-3 3-4 hopefulyy you wont go any faster then gear four. usually you dont chirp from 2-3 or 3-4. but if your REALLY good which im not even that good yet you can. I've never lost to an Auto. Good Luck.

this car launches best at around 3700-3900 rpms all day. Slight wheel spin into a lunge.

on another note, not to thread jack but why the hell is my clutch stickin so badly, i used to chirp second where the car would actually go sideways slightly, now it wont even chirp for me.

I whooped a z28 today, not the old school 88-91s, but a current year. Damn I love my '06 6MT!

um...so back on to the topic, my car took me about 1800 miles to figure it out. Once, you've got it... this car is a beast.

first of all, u beating an s2ks and 645s with 5AT proves that ur freinds don't know how to drive stick just like you, so it doesn't prove that 5AT is faster than ur current 6MT. The fact that you can not catch up to an automatics TL proves that your shifts are not fast at all. There is nothing to be furstrated of, it takes time and practice espacially if u never drove stick before. I know about 20 stick drivers (not only G35s) only 4 of them can actually drive the car on the strait line and 2 in the twisties (1 of them is me ) which proves that only 20% of stick drivers know how to shift/launch and only 10% know how to get around the corners.
I have yet to lose to N/A auto either on the street or at the track.
You have to launch atleast above 2500-3500 depending on weather, asphalt and tire condition. As far as fast shifting, you can not do anything about it, it is just matter of time and practice. I have owned the car for 2 years and last 3 months are the only months from those 2 years that i can actually launch and shift constantly.

I agree, too many people assumes ATs are faster than MTs everytime they beat a MT. They need to realize that MT requires more skills therefore allowing greater margin of error.

So when you whoop your friend or whoever who drives a 6mt. Its actually not your car that beats the MT, its the driver's error.

Oh yeah, different mt cars have different ways to launch. all AT, just floor it LOL.

feather the gas.. you shouldn't be "peeling out" at 1500 or 2000 unless you're just completely holding the gas down..
