Saving miles on the coupe

Saving miles on the coupe
Okay. I drive like 60 miles a day, which comes up to 300 miles a week, 1200 miles a month (work days). My car is currently in the shop, some idiot dinged me. Anyway, the only part I love not having my car is the miles that I have been saving not driving it. It’s going on 2 weeks now. So I have saved around 600 miles.
During this time, I've been thinking about renting a fuel-efficient car, like a Corolla for like 15.99 a day, every other week or so to take the stress of driving my G so much to work. Seems like a practical way to save miles right? Or just move closer to my job! But thats another headache in-its-self

Regardless of what you save you will miss the times when you leave work, the weather is picture perfect, then you have to hop into a Corolla to go home. BORING!!
I can't say that I haven't thought about obtaining a "beater" to go to work but the fun factor of the driving the G snuffs that flame every time.
Use the G for it's intended purpose and enjoy it every chance that you can.

LOL! I would usually say "JUST DRIVE THE CAR!". But I was in the same situation as you, I don't mind driving my car and adding up the miles, but what was killing me was the gas. So I went out and bought a used Honda hatchback as a daily driver. I got a good price on it; 2k and i get 35mpg which lasts me pretty much the whole work week, and I can fill it with about 20 bucks.
Btw I drive 45 miles to work and another 45 home daily.

Oh, I have you all beat. My car has been in the shop (G Coupe 6MT) or that creaking chair noise three times, for a total of 3 weeks. It has also been in the shop for other repairs (axle clicking noise, 7500 mile warranty) for another week. So, I had every single color I can think of in the Sedan, with all options included (and excluded). Guess I save myself:
$15.99 * 31 = $495.69 (rental, probably should be more)
$3.29 / Gallon * 20 * 4 = $263.20 ($3.29 per gallon, at 20 gallons per full tank, which I go a full tank per week)
$1100 (new tires per year average) / 365 days * 31 days = $93.31
$44.95 (oil Change) / 3 months = $14.98
So, something like $867 dollars. This doesn't include them repainting my front bumper, since they scratched it and removing all the rock chips too.

Lots of debate whether or not what you propose makes sense for expensive cars like a Porsche, and the cosensus on Rennlist seems to be at best you may break even when you consider all of the additional costs you incur on the beater: purchase price, maintenance, and insurance. On a less expensive car like a G35, it makes no sense at all.

Dude. I dunno why you want to save miles on your car.
Your car depreciates fast, so you'd rather spend the cash on another car plus take the hit of depreciation? Buying the G wasn't an investment I hope. No matter what condition/mileage is on your G, when you get rid of it or sell it the pricing won't be close to what you paid for it.
I do store the car during the winter etc (due to the car being undriveable in snow with the mods I have). But I drive it to the ground in the summer days. I have 16k on the car in 2 years, driving 2 summers!! I have many rockchips and resprays to prove it.
If you're going to check another route just for the sole purpose of "saving miles" I suggest you sell the car and get something more practical. If you meant you are saving miles as in gas, that's a whole different topic.
If people can drive their Ferrari's daily in the summer, why can't you?
I can tell you're pretty **** about your car, but there's a breaking point in being ****. You can't keep your car locked up in a "museum" for the rest of its life! That's depressing, it needs to be on the road!
When do you get to "enjoy" you car if you don't plan on driving it daily? Would you drive it on the weekends, when you have to park street park in the city? What if there was rain/flooding the next few weekends? Guess you won't be able to enjoy your 30k car till the following weekend!
We all know we won't be keeping the G forever. So enjoy the most you can with it before you have to part with it. (and most likely get something better )

My advice is, think BIG. In other words what's a few extra thousand miles if you plan to put about 200K on it. No big deal. Trust me, you will get sick of your car somewhere around 180K range but it will still run.
For example, when someone puts 20K per year that's 60K in 3 years. Seems like a lot. But in 9 years you're only 180K and 9 years is a da_n long time. My .02 cents.

haha I have a beater. My 93 civic hatch. well my beater died like a week and half ago and so I've been driving my G since then and have put on like 500 miles in 2 weeks. I drive around alot for work since I have to go to different hospitals to install equipment. well now that my buddy(co-worker) is back i just drive to his house which is about 5-10 miles away. I'm pulling the motor and swapping it myself in the hatch, but its in rialto at my girls house so i don't get to go out there as much as i would like, cuz of work. hopefully i can finish this weekend.
but once I pull the motor and swap it out, i plan on selling it and getting a 240 or 86ish corolla, something else to drive and beat up. Now that I've experience rear wheel drive i get bored driving my civic.
