Driving w/o your spare tire?

Who here drives w/o their spare tire? Since i don't plan to drive it all the time (same as the 'stang), i just yank out the tire and save like 65pds

.....now where else can i take off some weight, heh

Re: Driving w/o your spare tire?

I know alot of people that remove there spare when they head out to race, I guess that is understandable. But for everyday use non racing days, keep the spare in i say. I wonder if 65lbs really makes much of a difference though.

Or after you have a flat, you will weigh less after the walk home! :-)

Yep. And after all that exercise, the trip to the bathroom for a quick dump is good for at least another 5lbs! (Probably equal to .5 HP) LOL

Re: Driving w/o your spare tire?

that weight is also on the driving wheels....so it's 65 or so less #'s over the driving wheels.

Re: Driving w/o your spare tire?

One thing to remember is that the spare tire is calculated into the crash calculations and that many cars would fail the rear crash standards if the spare is removed. Many cars that are going to run flats and taking out the spare are having problems reinforcing the rear due to this.

Re: Driving w/o your spare tire?

Marcel, if I remember correctly, BMW gives you a can of fix-a-flat with the Mini Cooper S, as the S/C takes too much room in the engine bay, so the battery goes to the spare tire well....

Re: Driving w/o your spare tire?

Fix a flat is supposed to work okay in an emergency. You're supposed to get it fixed properly in a reasonable amount of time though. Also, it's important to tell the tire technician that you used the stuff so it doesn't blow up in his face or something. Also the inside of the tire and rim have to be cleaned of the goop.

That 'goop' is a PITA to clean. My tire guy hates the stuff.
