wierd noise when starting car.

When I turn my car on in the morning I hear like a weird noise coming from under the hood. Not a grind but a shreech noise not sure what it is. I can then turn it off and back on and it doesnt happen. Only happens when car isnt on for 10+ hours. Is this a problem? My car has an intake, spacer, and grounding kit.

I think i have the same problem not sure. Can you only hear it when the windows are down? I know i cant hear it when the windows are up and the door is closed, but if the windows are down or door is open i can hear it. It happens when the RPM needle gets to about 1600. It doesnt happen all the time for me just once in a while and i have no idea what it is. Sounds like something rubbing against something for a split second..

It could be, although i think it is something with the engine reving higher when it starts up. I think after the CAI and Spacer i started to notice it and it seems like at times the engine will almost hit 1800 when it starts up and thats when i notice the noise. Not sure if thats a normal Rev point suring start up.....

It's probably the cam chain tensioner that's gotten a little dry. No big deal.
As soon as the engine starts, it gets lubed and quietens down.

There is another weird noise from the ABS self testing after start-up, but that happens shortly after driving off.

Change you OIL, happened to me before.
My oil level was very low and black, even though there was 200miles to go.

thats what i thought it was, the belts. I just changed and tightend my belts though. My oil is changed every 3000 miles and the noise is still there every morning.

some of you are on the right track, its more then likely that is the power steering belt that needs to be tightened a wee bit more.this same problem happens to me twice a year for some reason, even though some have put in new belts they will stretch and need to be retightened.

I had a similar problem. All of a sudden a couple of weeks ago, I started hearing this really weird noise that I thought for sure was my clutch cuz it was like a weird, loud spinning noise that was coming from under my car. Or so I thought. It would only happen in the mornings or when my car was cold. Then after about 5-10 minutes of driving, it would go away. It drove me nuts for a couple of days cuz my G is an 06 with just about 3000 miles on it. Then one day after work, I popped my hood and decided I was going to listen for the noise with my hood up. To my surprise it wasn't the clutch/tranny. It was coming from somewhere in the engine! WTF!?!?!?! That's when I remember someone saying to check my oil. I did and it was a little bit low. Not too bad but it was low. So I went to the gas station, filled up and bought some oil. Put a quart of synthetic in and voila, no more noise. The noise is gone. I guess my engine just really didn't like being a little bit low on oil. Like I said, it wasn't bad. Oil still registered on the dip stick within the marked areas but it was closer to the bottom of the range than the top. I topped off the oil and now my baby is happy again.

It's your belts - they need to be adjusted. Even if you just changed them, they will need to be adjusted 2-3 times over a few weeks period. They stretch a lot when new.
