paint chip
Re: paint chip
NOPE! You can argue till you turn blue, but Infiniti cant and wont cover such claims. Anyone driving any car could encounter such a rock, or road debris. The fact of the matter is our cars are low, and have a low "slipstream" which in effect makes it very vulnarable to road debris and other hazards. This is also very common with Porsche and other cars with similar profiles.
BUT... I did speak with one Infiniti (Nissan Skyline) tech durring a visit to Japan, and he claimed the problem is NOT the paint which many seem to blame, but rather the paint is not given enough time to bake under the sun. You see the cars are built and are tested shortly after they're rolled off the line. From there they're wrapped and sent off to docking yards to be boarded on ships. Since the high demand for the car, the earlier G's shipped, never really had enough time to sit in the sun, which is a key element in the painting process. Plainly put, by the time they got to the US and on to the dealers lot, they were being sold like hot cakes, and had probably only seen a handful of sunny days if that. This may play a factor in why they may seem to chip easier than other cars. If you do a search here on the Forum you'll see many people complain about how many chips they got on their G within the first few weeks of owning it, and you'll also read how the others who have used their car less often (allowing it to sit and bake) have not had any chipping issues...

Re: paint chip
Sun cure time may help the problem (dunno) but after my front bumper was replaced and repainted there has been zero chipping after about 1500 miles. Obviously, this is on fresh paint, so the cure time theory (about a day before I started driving the newly painted car) would certainly be belied by that. The original paint on the bumper, which was two months old by the time I drove it, chipped like crazy from day one.
The way I see it it absolutely IS the paint. The only solutions are a clear bra (get it sooner rather than later) or a repaint.

Re: paint chip
I always read about G drivers complaining about paint chips on their bumpers. I've had my coupe now for 11 months, and 9K miles, don't have a single chip on the front bumper. It's my damn hood that is taking the beating. Even a couple high enough towards the windshield that a bra couldn't even help. I don't know why that is.

Re: paint chip
I have pretty much given up even trying to keep track of all the chips. I have literally hundreds of chips, I think I will get my bumper re-painted when I have a nasty scratch in my quarter panel repaired.
