Question Quick Spell Check

Granted this is a car enthusiast forum and not en english class but basically every thread has at least a couple of responses with some very basic, elementary level grammatical errors. Here are the most common I have found:

1) Offence - OFFENSE
2) Defence - DEFENSE
3) Infinity - Infiniti
How do you own one and still not know how to spell the name?
4) Wreckless - Reckless

I don't want to sound like a jerk but it just gets frustrating sometimes when trying to read posts and threads and I can't understand what the hell a person is trying to say because their english ranges from poor to plain incoherent.

I would venture to say that english is the first language for the vast majority of members on this forum.

Feel free to add to the list as I am sure other members feel the same. It just boggles my mind how some folks are old enough to drive but lack elementary level english and grammar skills.

Thank you! I thought I was alone...

Break - Brake (when referring to the objects that stop your car)
Congradulations - Congratulations
For Sell - It’s for Sale when you are looking for buyers

I'll edit this post to add more when needed.

I think a way to incorporate a spell check on this forum would be a great idea. It would also help when searching...so many posts and threads are spelled incorrectly it can skew the search results and leave out helpful information.

Since you are such a stickler for spelling and grammar, I thought you'd appreciate it if I corrected your mistakes:

1. You should have used a comma following the word "Granted".
2. You failed to capitalize "English" numerous times.
3. "en" should be "an" in the sentence "...not an English class..."
4. "offence" is an appropriate spelling for those using the Queen's English
5. You did not insert a comma after "class" and before "but" in your first sentence.

Now, I know there are some posts on here that can barely pass for English. However, I think it's ironically hilarious that you are picking out such minor spelling and grammatical errors while making an abundance of errors yourself!

There is a spell check option - you see it every time you type a message (it's in the upper right corner, the little ABC-check button). You have to download an IE plug-in for it to work.

Misspellings bother me, but even worse are run-on sentences with little to no punctuation at all. At the other extreme, people who capitalize the first letter of every word in their post drive me nuts too.

I anticipated some flames and I knew someone was going to do that - just as easily as you can go back check all my posts/threads an spellcheck them also. But it is encouraging to see that you went back to your old english reference books to get the corrections in order. With the exception of a few commas and the "en" typo, the errors are not abundant. That is besides the point though because I am not complaining about posts with minor, and often intentional (lazy) errors like those.

The point I am making is not that every post and thread should be 100% correct English - in an online forum/chat people always take short cuts. I am talking about the countless posts where people mispell the common words, the Inifiniti name. I am talking about the posts/threads that are absolutely incohoerent babble on this site - NOT the MINOR spelling/grammar errors - and there are more than a few.

Feel free to correct this post.

I honestly don't understand the reason why some members get so worked up and bothered when people dont spell things correctly. I think a lot of you guys make it a bigger issue than it really needs to be. Yes, it is true that at times members make careless mistakes but to me thats all they are and for the most part (99%) it really isnt too difficult to understand what they are saying. I will probably get flamed for this too but i could care less, in this site we share our opinions and help each other out among a few other things...and thats pretty much all there is to it.

Also..is it really necesary to comment on threads to just make someone look bad, im a believer that if you have nothing constructive to say, dont say anything at all. Not speakin to anyone in particular, just general thoughts.

I dont believe this is the majority of the people here either. I love this site and find myself loggin on a couple of times a day.

my 2 cents.

Because Infiniti is a classy car and it seems to be owned by ignorant people without an education.

I understand your point, to an extent.

However, I don't believe the thread was started to nit pick at every little grammatical error or misspelling. Rather, I take it as JBKFizzle45 only pointing out the very common words which are misused frequently. Now you can take this as members being “all worked up” or you can take it for what it is worth.

Now I will say that I am NOT an English guru and certainly never claim to be one. I’ve made grammatical mistakes and will make more. Trust me.

It may be hard to believe but money and class are not always relative.
