Is it normal for the 18" wheels paint to chip so easily?

I was resting it on my garage standing up last night. It accidently rolled over and landed on the spokes side. It wasn't even dropped or anything, and a HUGE junk of paint came off.

Is this normal? I started touching it and it kept peeling.

the stock 18's paints arent that durable, that is if you dont clean with soap and water often..i would recommend you get it refinished or just powder coat them.

Most chipping or peeling is either poor quality paint, or a poorly prepared surface. If under warranty I would push for it to be fixed.
Or as suggested, take it to a reputable wheel shop for cleaning and recoating or painting.

This is beginning to happen to my 19" oem Volks as well, though not as large and noticable as yours. It's happening in the parts where the spokes connect with the main rim. It's small, but it's been worrying me. I thought it might be attributed to brake dust buildup, but I clean my rims at least once a week.
Any ideas?

isnt there a clearcoat on the wheels?

damn.. that makes me worried about my 19s

first thing you should do is go to the dealership and try and have it fixed or replaced under warranty

I had this exact same problem with my front driver's side rim (18" on 03 6MT coupe). I fought it out with Infiniti's warranty department and consumer affairs for 6 months before it finally got fixed. And that was only because the service manager approached one of the Infiniti regional vice presidents about the problem when she stopped by for a tour of the dealership. It is NOT easy to get it replaced under warranty, even if you have the full support of the dealership, because Infiniti will fight you tooth and nail to say that its not covered under warranty just like tires, brakes, and other consumables. The argument you have to try to make is that the paint was improperly applied to the surface, exactly as fortified pointed out. I hired a "rim doctor" guy to fix it for me the first time it flaked, and he actually refused to fix it because he knew it would just come back off in a month or two. He was right.

All that said, what you're seeing is definitely not your fault and is definitely a known defect with some of the wheels (albeit a very small percentage). Fight for a replacement, but don't expect it to happen very easily.

Yes is common this has happen to me over and over again when I first bought my car my 19's alloy wheels started loosing paint with black stains I took it to the dealership and they swapped my wheels with another G they had in the dealership a couple of months later my mom bought an m45 and the manager of the infiniti dealership told her that he would swap my wheels for another 19's since I was getting the same problem later I decided to go change them and they notice a scratch on the edge of one of the rims because i hit a curb so they decided not to change them and they gave me the regular 18's that come with the premium package for free they put those on and I had my 19 alloy wheels laying down in my garage all of the sudden when I checked the paint of the alloy wheels was comming off exactly how you have on your pictures I guess is a manufacturing problem and thats why I hate infiniti wheels is the only thing that I hate about infiniti the quality of the wheels they sell are terrible

The problem I see with these wheels are the way the paint is applied I guess. It seems as if the paint is like one piece where if you get a small hit, it "dominoes" and chip off bigger pieces.
