Plates + fluid-when it "senses" slip the fluid stiffens and acts like a locking mechanism!

If you're spinning your tires, the clutch is fully engaged and not slipping. You have to be careful w/ your revs. Presumably your tires would be spinning at the same rate (even if you're doing donuts) so the LSD won't bind.
