Thumbs down Re-Sale Value???

Anyone have any idea why our G's have such a sorry A** resale value??? I mean compared to BMW, Benz, and other luxury vehicles Infiniti is way behind the pack...I have an 03 Coupe below typical mileage and KBB appraises my G at just 21K...Garbage if you ask me....It ultimately affect the buyers who buy not lease vehicles...I dont like to lease because i dont like to be mileage restricted and insurance is higher...this just makes me not ever buy another Infiniti again no matter how good performance or good it looks...

the '05 sedan won an award for residual value... i think infiniti is decent... what was the purchase price on your coupe?

$21K for a four year old car that you probably paid around $33K for is good as far as I'm concerned. Sure BMWs and MBs will have higher resale values, but don't forget that they cost a lot more when new.

BTW I just checked KBB for an '03 Coupe moderately equipped with low mileage - I put 30K miles which works out to 10K per year or the mileage allowed on all low price leases. Here's the KBB result:

Excellent- Good --- Fair
$23,700 $22,445 $20,240

Let's not forget that these are WHOLESALE and not RETAIL prices. If you sell it yourself you'll get at least 10% more. So if a guy paid even $34K for a car, kept it for 3 years and 30K miles, and then sold it for $25K or 25% less than he paid for it, that's very low depreciation in my books.

truthfully benz's resale value is going down the hole...a 2 year old car that is 85+ grand new, you can pickup for around 50 or less.....thats not good at all.

You could be correct on this one. I'm a little timid about buying the car now. I just graduated college in may and want another infiniti car. However i am moving on to another phase of life and i want to give a good image of myself, middle-class american. I guess i will make the car and the car doesnt make me.

By the way are you saying since the age target has decreased the resale value is going down

yes. the g35 is attracting alot more of the younger crowd who like to modify their cars. Those a little older may not want to buy this car for that reason. Like you, they may want a more "grown up" car. most of the buyers of used coupes are gonna be young guys. BMWs resale value is good because it is priced right and they successully manage their brand/image.

IMO...our G35 gets the "Ooh's and Ahh's" but the problem is, for example, since the 2003's are valued over 20k, potential buyers are thinking "Why spend over 20k for an 03' when I could go and buy an 06' Accord for that price?" If there's no demand for the used G35, resale value drops. We all know how popular the Accord is. New or used, there's always a market for it. I bought my 00' Accord LX coupe for $17k out the door. Sold it in 05' for $11k and it's currently valued for $10,185. Accord is purely a commuter car but it has a high resale value. There'll be a point for the G35 where the prices stablize and that's when the average joe can afford it.

Don't forget, all cars just dropped in value this past month or so due to the near release of the new models. Everything is now a year older.

yup new models are coming out too. thats why you see alot of members on this board selling their car now before the price drops even more. this is a good time to sell the coupe before mainstream gets knowledge of the coming body change in 08.

I don't think they're bad. I just went to autotrader.com and got this.

Example:
2004 Pontiac GTO - 6spd. Base MSRP $32,495
2004 Infiniti G35 - 6spd. Base MSRP $33,290
2004 BMW 330i - Base MSRP $35,895

Now, I did a search within 25 miles of my zip code and came up with 16 vehicles.

Here's a comparsion for 2004 vehicles only

GTO with 9,220 miles = $22,900
GTO with 16,000 miles = $21,400

G35 coupe with 31,000 miles = $28,000
G35 coupe with 28,000 miles = $29,000

BMW 330i with 16,738 miles = $30,895
BMW 330i with 33,275 miles = $26,595
