Question for owners of older Gs

Question for owners of older Gs
For those of you who have G coupes with 40K+ miles, how is your car holding up? The reason that I ask is that I have regular problems with squeaks and rattles. I repair them or have the Dealer repair them, but a few months later they return in different areas. Prior to buying an '05 G, my cars were all German: Porsche 993, BMW M3, and Audi TT. These cars had one thing in common: no rattles or squeaks at all, even after four years and 50K miles. As a matter of fact I assumed with improved manufacturing technology that rattles were a thing of the past. The last car that I owned that had as many squeaks and rattles was a C3 Vette.
Although the G coupe has a nice design and decent performance at a reasonable price, I can't see myself buying another one because of my concern with the rattles. It seems to me that although the German cars cost more, they are put together much better than the G. I guess it goes to prove that you get what you pay for.

Unfortunately, The Gs are very rattly compared to European cars. My 04 G Coupe only has 20K miles on it, but it has rattles coming from the rear view mirror, sunroof, and somewhere in the back. The last car I owned was an 01 Volvo S60, and that thing was tightly built. Never had any rattles or squeaks, and had much better noise insulation.
But European cars are more expensive for what you get. I decided that I wanted a little more performance and could live with a few rattles.
I do think the G is pretty much up with the other Japanese cars, in terms of rattles and noise, but they are nowhere close to European standards.

I have an 04, so far only one occassional rattle from the passenger side belt bracket when going over bump. There is a creak here or there now and then, but overall nothing annoying. 4 doors have typically a tighter structure. Maybe the sedans are tighter, the one I drove (loaner) seemed to be...
I've had quieter cars, but more noisier ones.

I have my 04 coupe almost 3yrs, and close to 39,000 miles at this point. I have had some experience with rattles, but they are for the most part seasonal with my car.
For example, I have a rear parcel shelf buzz rattle in the summer, and in the winter I develop a small rattle by the glove box area. They are never consistent, which drives me nuts.......
I had to have both headlight assemblies replaced due to internal cracks
The drivers seat cushion and leather replaced due to excessive sagging
The drivers seat frame was either broken or loose and repaired( and no...I'm not a fat tub....weigh about 180)
They replaced the drivers side window motor....failed early on in 05
They replaced my Throttle body due to a sporatic hic cup (still does it I might add)
They did a recall on the fuel filler hoses
I would like to think the new upcomming 08 model to be free of alot of these maladies, but who knows, I make a habit of never buying the first year production of any make or model car.......It allows the consumer to report all the problems that don't show up in pre-production testing at the factory.
I have owned many cars in my lifetime, and I will tell you every one of them had there own quirks......didn't matter which make or model.

the answer is obvious.
the answer is obvious.
I have an 03 6MT coupe and the only on-going creak I have is in the driver's window/door when going around a tight turn or changing pavement elevations (like in a construction zone or coming out of a steep driveway). I also had a rattle in my shifter, but I'm pretty sure that's because I overtightened it when I was putting my console back together.
Knock on wood, this car has been really great for me so far and I'm looking forward to owning it for a long time. But then again I'm not used to owning Porsche's and M3's.

04.5 6MT at 59K now and no problems whatsoever, no rattles, no complaints
Except I am on my 3rd. transmission since 18K (or close) the first got stuck in 5th gear and was changed under warranty; the second was changed a few days after that due to a grinding from 5th to 6th (they said it was defective)... The third is wonderfull and has been there since 18K so it has 41K...
Also, I drive hard most of the time just because I can and it's fun so the car is far from having been driven easy... I will buy the next generation G coupe for sure, but will probably keep this one and heavily mod it as a weekend warrior
