06 coupes w/ tint...advice please

First of all, let me introduce myself. My name is Chris and I am a student @ Georgia Tech. I just used all of my hard earned and saved money to buy an 06 coupe (black obsidian over wheat interior, with premium packame, and sport package). I absolutely love it so far.

Well, it's time to start making my car a little more...mine!

I just ordered smoke side markers to replace the factory orange.

Saturday I am getting tint. I have read on here to not let them cut out for the brake light, Ive never really thought about that issue. Do I just tell them that?..."Don't cut out for the brake light"? Also, on the 06's (maybe previous models as well...) the windows go up and down to seal when you open them. How do I address this issue? Obviously they tint with the doors open. I don't want a 1 inch gap on the bottom of my windows.

Thanks guy.

if the tinting place you are going does g's before they will know that it drops...most likely they will bypass it with a screw in the door panel...and the third brake light issue..just have them pop out the 3rd brake light and tint the entire window...

Make sure to tell the tint shop not to cut around the third brake light. All they have to do is remove the third brake light assy. NOT a big deal. I didnt get charged any additional price cause of it either. The guy told me it was one of the easiest ones to do. Dont worry about the windows going up when closing the door. It wont mess it up and no, you wont have a 1" gap at the bottom.

They didn't charge me extra either for removing the brake light. They disconnected the battery to address the window seal issue and it erased all my radio presets, but well worth it

Make sure you tell them about the fact that the windows go down when the door is opened. I forgot to tell my tint shop and I watched the guy cut out the first window. When I noticed he was not allowing for the extra inch or so, I intervened. He stood there and tried to center the tint he already had cut so he would not waste the tint. I have no doubt he would have left a gap on the top and bottom had i not told him politely that "maybe he should use that piece to do the 2 rear quarter windows".

I took my third brake light out before I went there, so there was no question about that...

a really good way of preventing that one inch on the front windows is to cut off the batt supply, that way the windows wouldn't automatically roll down when they open the door!!!

Um...they cant open the door if they do that with the window up and the door shut or the window will hit the body panel above.... Otherwise they would have to open the door, press the actuator in the door jamb and disconnect the battery. But if they do that they better darn well not shut the door again before reconnecting the power or else the window and/or the body panel over the window will be damaged...

make sure the shop has done a g35 coupe before. they'll know about the front window issue. also ask them about the dot matrix on the rear window and how they will tint it. stay away from a vinyl strip to cover it up. i got 35% front and 20% rear for $150 in tx.

I just had mine done a month ago. I did not have any problems what-so-ever. Just let em' tint the car and be done with it. DONT WORRY.
