infiniti did this on purpose...this is normal.

 

problem is, they see the G and think its pretty and a luxury car.
so when they feel things through the steering wheel they wonder what's wrong, and when the shifter vibrates, it feels cheap. this is why infiniti dropped brembo brakes from the G. in reality though, i think infiniti could have advertised the sports aspect of the car more so people wouldnt think of it as a (traditional) luxury car.

as it is a lot of people see it and get so excited that when they test drive it they arent thinking about if its really a good car for them. so they buy it and after everything wears off they look at it and realize its not the luxury car they thought it was (as if it was ever anything different) and become less happy...

in a lot of cases people would have been better served in a Lexus IS.

 

Every car with a manual tranny does that. I can't explain why honda/acura's don't really at idle as much. If you don't like it, trade it in and get an auto. There's a reason why the G was motor trend's 2003 car of the year and why the G, since it came out has beaten out all of the bimmers and everything else it has been compared to. Stop being such a girl!!

Try driving in a manual truck! that thing VIBRATES!!

The G does vibrate more than BMW though that's for sure.

I know that almost every manual car vibrates and its normal. But the infiniti vibrates a little more for a sport lux car.

Even car&driver mention is it on their review. But they were also stupid to say that the G exhaust was too loud!!

 

integras wont vibrate because hondas use the rod link instead of the cable.....still cant figure out why nissan/inifiniti dont use the rod either, so much smother.

 

I don't think this has been asked yet: are you getting just a vibration, or a vibration and a rattle?

As others have said, a mild vibration in the shifter is completely normal. The vibration would actually be much worse, but the OEM shifter is actually liquid-filled to deaden some of the inherent vibration. However, if the valve in the **** breaks, you'll get an irritating metallic rattle. The valve is not something that's generally defective, but you can break it if you take the **** off and then overtighten it when putting it back on.

I had the rattle and found out from the dealership that the valve was broken. They replaced it under warranty and I've had no problems since.

 

ive driven 3 different G's and they all had different characteristics when it came to the tranny. one was quite smooth, the second had "mild vibration" and the one i eventually bought stirs around like a 1000W blender. When im on the highway and the road is a tad rough, it looks like the stick is gonna pop right out of gear.... no noise though. noise would suck.

 

the actual shift **** vibrating is completely normal dude. in fact, i love it. it really makes me feel connected to the car.
didnt you test drive one before buying? if it really bothers you that much (youre weird) then why did you buy it?

 

Unfortunately a $40k car is cheap. If you want better quality you probably need to spend $15-$20k more. You must also be upset that the body of the car is metal instead of carbon fiber. Oh well, I guess not everyone can be pleased with what they have.

Man that is because your Acura shift assembly was connected to cables that were connected to a mount bracket and all that mess was how you shifted the transmission so there is no way you can feel anything.

The G's shifter is IN the transmission which is directly bolted to the engine just like a REAL machine should be.

Please don't compare the Acura to the G, it dosen't even come close and get used to what a real machines shifter feels like man.

There is nothing wrong with feeling the engine in your hand!

There are 2 pictures attached, one is a RWD trans with shifter like we have in our g's, the other is what connects you to your trans in that Acura, Honda etc.

 

Same thing with Porsches, please don't compare those POS's to the G.

True, but it rests on rubber bushings front and rear (the locator arm, not the moving arm) which greatly reduce vibration.

As for why they didn't do this in the G, it's because of FF vs FR setup. FF needs a remote shifter where a FR transmission is usually under the transmission hump in the cabin. Yep, that's why they call it the transmission hump, because that's where the transmission is . Also, our shifter vibrates side to side a bit more due to the rotation of the engine in a left to right and not front to rear orientation.

Final answer is that it's designed that way, it's normal, and nothing's broken.
