nav problems.

Ok i got 2004 Coupe.,,
in the navigation manual, it shows when you press DEST buttom you are meant to see address book, POI, Phone number, intersection, etc.

But when i click DEST on my own nav i see only Address/Street and POI. Nothing else. BTW this is while the car is parked. Whats wrong with my NAV?

Also how the f*** do you find something like the nearest best buy

Re: nav problems.

Working from memory here, but go to the "settings" menu and choose "long menus" or whatever it's called. New systems default to "short menus" whuich is what you're looking at.

I don't think anything like Best Buy is in the POI menu. It's a fixed list of categories, about 30 or so of them, and it's things like gas stations, restaurants (by cuisine!), sports arenas, etc. Retail stores are not there for the most part, not even things like auto parts stores, which should be there IMHO. Infiniti dealers are there though, of course.

Re: nav problems.

It's very simple and intuitive. Unfortunately, it looks like the software on your Nav is messed up-- the dealer will have a firmware fix for that. They pop in a DVD, it downloads a new OS, and you go on your merry way. 5 minute fix.

As for finding the nearest best buy, you just go to POI, then enter your town, and the name of the store you're looking for. It will find a few, and you can just look and see what's the closest to you. If you're looking for something not so incredibly set-in-stone as Best Buy, you can punch in things like: grocery store, golf course, school, retail shopping, airport, restaurant (fast food or sit down) etc. etc. etc. and hit "Nearby".

Re: nav problems.

Are you sure it's not set to "short menus"?

Re: nav problems.

I completely forgot they were on Shot Menus at default. That's the problem-- my bad. You can, in fact, find auto stores.

There are 52 categories, spanning everything from Airport to Winery... If I'm looking for an auto-parts store, I usually at least know the name of a few. Autozone, Pep Boys, NAPA, etc. so I just search by name. After four letters or so, it knows what I want, typically. Usually when I know I have to go to someone's place of business, I just put in the phone # of their company, and I get there, too.

Pretty handy, very intuitive... but try teaching your mother how to do it. I shouldn't have gotten her the tech package with her FX, because she calls every ten minutes "How do I...?" Oy.

Re: nav problems.

Yep.. I encountered the same issue when I first got mine. Short menu is the problem. You can find pretty much any business using it's name in the POI. Learn the short cuts, like using 'last 5 cities', and the 'list' button when you've put in partial data.

Which reminds me of a question I was going to ask. When you list out, say, 5 Best Buy's in Dallas, does it order them by shortest distance? I can't quite figure out if that's the case. I'm thinking it's not ordered that way, however it should be. That makes me look at the address for each listing and guessing which is closest.. unless I missed something..

Overall, the NAV rocks..

Re: nav problems.

It doesn't list them in shortest distance unfortunately.

Re: nav problems.

Hey guys, I am having probs with NAV as well. It's not calculating the route information. Does it sound like I just need a firmware installation.

Re: nav problems.

What does it do when it starts to calculate? Freeze? If so, yes, you need the firmware upgrade. Eject and re-insert the DVD first and try it out, then take it to the dealership. You can run your own diagnostic on the Nav, but unless you know what you're looking at, it's useless.

Dragon: It looks like sometimes's it's more of a hassle Eh, who am I kidding? It rocks.

Re: nav problems.

It doesn't freeze. I hit calculate route and it spits "route unsucessfully calculated" or something to that effect. I will take your advice and eject and reinsert the dvd. Hopefully, that will be the easy fix. Thanks for the input.

Re: nav problems.

Wow... never heard of that error. Are you in a really rural area? Perhaps it doesn't know all the streets around you, and can't sufficiently direct you to a destination. I believe on the company's website, they have a map of the US that is color-coded to show which areas have extremely detailed, moderately detailed, and poorly detailed areas.
