Changing front plate

We'll I've had my license plates for about a month now and finally decited to put them on. So in the process of chaning from the dealer plates to my new ones I remember my sales dealer giving me this piece that goes over the front so you don't have to put your front plate on. So I the process of taking off the front plate and putting the little piece in there to plug up the hole I find that there are two extra holes with a plastic bracket for the screws, but he never gave me anything to plug those holes.

Is there something I'm missing?? Or is it an emissions thing with California where you must have a plate in the front or two extra ugly holes with nothing to block.... let me know if anyone else ran in to this problem taking off their front dealer plates.

Re: Changing front plate

Yea those two extra holes are from the dealer screwing screws into it, that's just the way the front bracket mounts. They will be there unless you get it patched up by a body shop or someone who knows what they are doing. That's why i told the dealer not to even think about putting on that front plate.

Oh so basically your stuck with those two holes unless you feel like dishing out the $$$$ to get it fixed.
Edited by davey2003 on 10/28/03 11:19 AM.

Patching up those holes are easy and cheap, the expensive part is the paint - painting the WHOLE front bumper over two little holes.

Re: Changing front plate

That sucks, aguh, well i mean... I'm going to end up doing some sort of body work on it, was thinking just keeping it clean with like a lip kit, when I get all that done I'll have them fix up the holes.. but anyways, thanks for the reply davey.

Re: Changing front plate

We may be backasswards here in KY, but at least that's one thing we don't have to worry about...front license plates, especially since ours are so goofy looking...a smiley face sun??? WTF?

Re: Changing front plate

Here's an idea. If you remove the front plate bracket get some plugs, the ones that have the plastice ribs that grip inside a hole when you push it in. (that sounded kinda notty). Anyway, you can spray them with some touch up paint and an airbrush spray gun. That's what I did to my Boxster.

The G35 is my wife's car and of course being in CA the front plate is required by law. The bracket provide by Nissan/Infinit just sucks. Being an engineer myself, I would like to ask the guy who designed this bracket what the hell he was thinking. Having the customer drill holes into a bumper is just crazy. And I don't want extra holes in the bumper. Ugh.

Furthermore. After removing the cover in the front bumper for the tow point, why can't the threaded hole be used to mount the license plate bracket? Does anyone know of such a bracket?

Thanks...

Re: Changing front plate

Look at Strictly Z, I bought such an adapter to put the front plate without drilling holes on the bumper, it attaches through the tow hitch =)

Re: Changing front plate

mstaxman... Here in NY we gotta have front plates! They'll pull ya over just for that, or if you leave your car parked anywhere on public roads, you'll get ticketed as well. It sucks big time!

Even so, I drive around without a front plate. What can I say it looks hot, but everytime I get pulled over, I get asked "wheres your front plate"....

I once asked a cop why NY state requires you to have a front plate, he said for a few reasons:

A: It adds a target point to laser guns, as with todays cars using more and more plastics and composite material on their front end, some guns are having trouble giving accurate readings due to the laser being absorbed by such material and paint.

B: Parking tickets! So a meter-maid doesnt have to walk around your whole car to verify the windows resgistrayion. Can you say lazy-fat-bastard?

C: And for red light and toll booth camera's, as not all are pointed twd the rear plate.

Re: Changing front plate

I bought those hole plugs at autozone. All u need is GM,FORD&CHRYSLER BODY-TITE! (plugs), P600 sand paper, primer spray can, color spray can

here's the step
1. sand the mold line on the middle of plugs surface to make a smooth surface.
2.prime the plugs. The plugs color is black, so u might need to prime it, if ur car have brighter color.
3.spray the color.

Make sure it's a GM,FORD&CHRYSLER BODY TITE! because this is the best shape i've found out there.

Good luck !
