Question Dipstick Stupidity?

...everytime I check the oil (once per week), I wonder about this....

For all the beauty and inspiration in the design of the Coupe, the engineers must have been on crack when they designed the oil dipstick! WTF?

Not to mention that it is nearly impossible to extract and insert this dipstick without problems--twist, push, pull, bend!!!

Why does it need to be so complex? What's wrong with a simple "stick" that pulls straight out?

Maybe there's a legit mechanical reason for this--please, someone tell me.

I was thinking the exact same thing when I checked my oil for the first time. I came from a 03 Maxima which has the same basic VQ and the dipstick is straight in.

sorry I've never checked it before because I jsut got my first oil change.

But all this oil consumption thread is getting my attention and makin me worried since infiniti doesn't make a perfect car and definitely lack in some common sense(rattles, seat adjustment etc). I'll check it during lunch tomorrow at work. Then I'll post how crappy it is LOL

What about the idiot who designed the engine under-cover/skid-plate?

Anyone with half a brain would have made a 2-piece plate.. one in the front that attaches to the spoiler with all those screws, etc... and then a second smaller one towards the rear of the engine covering the oil pan and which could be removed by only taking off maybe 4 screws. But instead, we get stuck with one big honking cover that has 20 screws holding it in. Pure Genius.

It probably cost a fortune for infiniti to make that dip stick
so many bends. They made so many straight lines designing the car, I guess they just let engineers run wild on this one.

It's really not that bad once you figure out the combination.

Three to left, 16 to the right, back to the left 10 and pull!!!!

i was create an exact thread about this. its not the dipstick man. its the location. with the all heatshield and the size of the engine, they couldnt find a good place so that had to figure out a way to make it work.

i was checking up on the oil also and could barely get a good reading. my integra LS turbo was a lot more easier.

Pull straight up, put straight in.

Bad mouth...........bla, bla, bla..................

The fit and finish on our Gs is twice what GM or
Ford offer. Look close at the new cars from any
manufacture and you'll find things you dislike. I
don't have a problem with oil consumption....not a
drop. But due to the post I frequently check it with
that stupid dip stick. I got my first Nissan car in '72
and have put 500k miles on them since....they make
good vehicles. I've been modding them ever since!!

Here's an idea. Lets work on a mod for the dipstick, I'm sure we can come up with a better design

good luck. it's not going to get better then what the dealer did. u need one that will flex and bend with the tube that is running down to the oil.
