where do you mount your radar detector?

I have the newest passport and I mount my detector like maybe a couple of inches from the top of the windshield wiper. My problem is that sometimes I see cops that are clearly hiding and radaring and the detector just doesn't go off. Now I'm aware that they may not always be radaring when I think they are but I get no approaching read or instant-on read...or anything during these situations. I'm just wondering if I'm mounting it too low...where do you mount yours?

sometimes cops doesn't have their laser or radar on. so you don't get any signal.

I mount mine in the middle, bottom(1 inch from the dash) of the windshield and plug them into my fuse box.

Yeah, you shoulda got a V1 haha

But the manual on the V1 says that you usually can't detect radar that's being shot left to right when you're driving down a road...not until you cross it's path. If the cop is shooting at a 90degree angle across the road, you probably won't pick it up until a car in front of you crosses the radar and it bounces off their car and you pick up the stray signal.

Btw, my V1 saved my azz today...

traffic was heavy driving through Providence, RI today on Rte 95. As soon as an opening in the traffic appeared, I downshifted and gunned it. I was up to 80mph in 3rd gear in a few seconds and my V1 started to get a strong signal from up ahead even though there was plenty of traffic around me and no cops in sight...I immediately braked even though I was still in the process of accelerating because I didn't want to take any chances...
I came around a bend in the highway and right there, parked on the inside of the corner was a cop shooting radar. I picked him up at least 1/4 mile away, thank god! The V1 just paid for itself!! (and back to the OP's original question - I have mine mounted just above the dash for now, until I do a hardwire install - then it will go just below the suntint line above near the top of the windshield. The manual recommends the higher position on the windshield.)

^^^ Ok, then they most definitely don't shoot 90 degrees across traffic. I'm sure cops learn that in "How to Ruin Someone's Day with a Radar Gun - 101" lol

Ever since I got my v1 I haven't got a ticket. And that's 3.5 years ago.

here's what happen.

Got a WRX within 2 years I got 5 tickets -yeah it was messed up. It includes BS tickets. Trust me its bs(5mph or 8 mph tickets over speed limit).

I got fed up and bought v1. Never got any tickets PERIOD! How's that for a testimony!

My insurance went straight down(60% cheaper) because all of my record got cleared!!!

The basics of radar detection make a center high mount the most efficient.

Behind the mirror so you don't see it in the car. I have wired a remote LED into the console beside the compass display.

I have a cordless Solo S2 I mount to the front glass just to the right of the rearview mirror and at the same height.
As someone here said, higher is better (earlier signal detection) for a radar detector.
