I need help guys... Do i need a new clutch!?!?

Well heres the story...

I was cruisin at about 65mph in 6th gear when i decided to give it some gas in 6th and see how the acceleration that a high gear was... well the rpms start to move up them bog down then go back up.... i was in shock and did it a couple more times to see if it did the same and it did. I tried to do a peel out to see if my gears catch and omg let me tell you they DID NOT CATCH... 1st gear didnt catch AT ALL FOR SHYT and i smelt the lovely smell of clutch for at least 20mins.... a strong scent of it which didnt fade for the whole 20mins =-( Do i need a new clutch and also if i do what do you guys suggest? A regular oem clutch or aftermarket racing clutch? ... also how much is a clutch job on our cars? i think i have about 2 months or so left on my warranty... will they do my clutch for free or does it have to be blown 100% for them to do it because if so ill blow it now lol thanks guys! i need answers asap plz!

Kenny

Sounds like a clutch.

The dealership wont give you a clutch repair under warranty. Clutches are not covered. Some people (me included) have gotten new clutches from the dealership but I got mine at 400 miles due to an obvious defect in the product.

If I were you, I would dump that POS stock clutch and get yourself a quality aftermarket product.

Good luck.

Sounds like you need a new clutch.

Do this quick test....

From a standstill, get going on first, and instead of shifting from first to second... Shift straight from 1st to 5th at low speeds and FLOOR IT. If the meter goes crazy (up then down) and your clutch does not catch... then you need a new clutch. If the flywheel/clutch do catch, and you are able to slowly accelerate (obviously slowly since you are at low speeds with a high gear) then you might be ok.

Tell me how it works out.

Well you might not need a flywheel (unless it was damaged too by some odd but uncommon reason).

But if you still wanna change the flywheel... I might suggest the Light Weight Flywheel and Clutch combo.

But im not that familiar with aftermarket Clutchs and Flywheels... so somebody else might have a better idea.

I have the ACT clutch with the UT light weight flywheel, and i love it. There is more chatter at low speed or if the engine is bogged, but your car will feel a little bit quicker due to the light weight components. Just do some research it took me a while before i decided on what i wanted to put into my car.

My clutch went out at 17K (see first two pics).

I recommend taking advantage of the situation and purchase a lightweight flywheel clutch combo.

You'll love it.

will they do my clutch for free or does it have to be blown 100% for them to do it

The clutch is a normal wear item and hence isn't covered by warranty. On very rare occassions, premature wear can be caused by a manufacturing defect, but that's a 1 in a million chance, especially on an older car.

Based on your description, your clutch may not have much life remaining before it won't function at all. So I wouldn't delay before getting it repaired. Take it to a good independent shop near you, and you'll save a few hundred dollars. If the shop will allow you to order the parts, you'll save another couple hundred. There are lots of internet suppliers that will sell you a clutch at the wholesale price.

Actually he did this already. His clutch slipped in 6th gear at speed, so there's no way that it will engage at low speed in 5th gear. The test you describe is a good one. The one I always use however is to launch the car at around 4K RPM and then drop the clutch. If the clutch engages after this test, you know for sure that it's in great shape.
