wrong oil filter size??
i just had oil change... i changed to mobil 1 with k&n oil filters.. my question is, i got the HP-1010 filter but after let my mechanic installed and everything then i realized that 1008(from k&n website) was the correct size... but i asked my mechanic while he installing filter that will 1010 filter fits perfectly and he said it fits perfect and it just fitted into oem one... should i change to 1008 or just leave it alone? if it's fine, then can i keep using 1010? cuz i have bunch of them(got that for free)...

Re: wrong oil filter size??
I'm using a K&N. Fit is important, but so is the pressure relief valve rating. I'm using an HP1006, not the 1008. I wanted a larger filter. Before I made my decision, I called Technical Support at K&N. Told them my desire to use a larger filter, the tech recommended the 1006, said it had the same ratings, would fit (although it had a tad bigger OD. If you're concerned, and you should be, I would give them a call. Let us know the outcome.

It's possible there are many that will fit as Lowrider has found out (from their tech support). The HP 1010 you have seems to be for the Altima 4 cyl engine.
It may be as simple as larger size and different relief valve pressures, but you should check first like Lowrider did to confirm the 1010's use.
It would be a good idea to check with your dealership service manager or mechanic too.

I'll keep you guys up to date...
it's good to have daily beater haha... oh yeah i dunno about altima use 10100 but Q45 uses 1010(from k&n website)..

uheenada, That would be best to check.
BTW- the 2002 Altima 2.4L engine calls for an HP1010 , same as the Q45 does.
There are prolly many applications for the 1010 ,just make sure it's compatible with your engine.
The fitment of a filter is only half of the equation----sure it may fit, but as has been said- there may be other, unseen features inside the filter.
Take care

Re: wrong oil filter size??
aite i called tk&n tech few minutes ago..
he told me 1010 is little bigger than 1008 but both filters are same inside... he said i don't need to replace to 1008 right away if check engine light doesn't come on(he told me that check engine light might be on with wrong filter but 1008 and 1010 are 90% same except 1010 is about 1/4in longer and difference is so minimal that people can't tell which one is which without looking at size#)... however he told me to use "1008 only(not 1010 and 1006)" next time for warranty issue on our engine... he told me infiniti could void engine warranty for wrong size filters(he told me using 1010 won't hurt anything at all but you know other things might go wrong(non oil related) and they just could blame on filter)... so i feel much better now...

Re: wrong oil filter size??
Guess we didn't speak to the same tech. As for me, I'm not going back to a small oil filter. If Infiniti denies a claim because I used an oil filter that was identical in specifications to the correct filter, but bigger. That would be just silly, and I wouldn't stand for it. Besides, I've moded my engine a little, and a different size oil filter would be the least of my worries.
