Re: Can our G-coupe take a Lexus gs400

by no means, is the GS the same type of performer that the G coupe is. but it does have legs. thats alll i was saying. no matter what aftermarket parts you throw at the GS, it will still be tall and heavy. but for a four door tourer, its hard to beat. oh and the accident..........lets just say that slick roads and physics took over.........

Doc

You have been weighed.....You have been measured.....and you have been found WANTING!!!

Would you know how the GS handles compared to G sedan?

I Dusted a GS 400 on the highway less than 2 months ago. He cut me off going on to the on ramp, I came off the ramp doing about 60 and took off on him from there. I think he was embarrased and suprised at the same time. Needless to say he managed to cut my trip time down by 30min.

Re: Can our G-coupe take a Lexus gs400

talk about a "learning" experience, the 5at trans in the lex gs400/430 learns your driving technique (as do many trans today). the guy who was dusted by a g may/probably had a slowed down trans that'd learned the wrong slow things.

wayne and dr.rick are right: the numbers don't really tell the tale with the gs400/430. i owned one just before the g6mtcoupe i bought. handling is very good in the g6mtcoupe, but part of it has to do with a tighter "feel". and feel is similar to sound; you may think you're handling better (or sound like a cai is making your car go faster) but in fact you may be going about the same speed, making the same power, or even less! the gs400/430 was no 60s american muscle car most of which could only go fast in a straight line. i took mine up and down the pac coast highway more than several times and never worried about going off into the wild blue while running the car hard in some stretches esp. in oregon and washington state.

while the gs400 leans quite a bit more than a gcoupe, that's not necessarily a detraction from handling, traction or ultimate grip. it is a very neutral handling car with only a touch of understeer easily controlled by the loud pedal (the gas) .

as to torque and quickness, the gs is no slouch and unless someone gets the jump on you, the driver of a gs400, you're gonna go just fine. your trans has to be in the quick mode, and you need to be in the right gear. all i had was a trans mod and a kn drop in. and the best tires money could buy.

i'm told that this coming year, the gs model finally gets a new car. should be interesting to see what they come out with. trd, toyota racing development, has been cutting back all of its efforts and this could make the gs series a sedate car to cater to cushy tushies. but then again...

Re: Can our G-coupe take a Lexus gs400

So... what you are saying sixone is you had a running start when you went by the GS and this was dusting? Sorry folks the average Coupe is not going to dust the average GS. I have driven my new Coupe enough to know that. Why bother posting, I don't know. Seems since I have been fortunate to own both of these cars I need to inject sanity (or insanity depending on your view) Nice points Bond, what year was your GS, were you on CLs forum?

Easily beat two in the last few weeks. Both started off strong but by the end of second gear they were history. So either the Lexus is not what these posts have been saying or Lexus drivers like to view Mt. Fuji.

Re: Can our G-coupe take a Lexus gs400

i own a g35c 6mt now, just got rid of my 99 GS400...
to note..from 60-100 the GS is faster. i get to 140 in a heartbeat.
but i know this for a fact... the g35c is handling like a champ.
my GS had michelin pilot sports..so does my g35c.
there is an overpass near my house, that i need to get on every day. i used to take it at 75, and i would slide a little in the GS. now i take it almost 85 in the g35c.
from 0-60 i would say its pretty even. the g35c is smokin out the gate. but the GS catches up...it did feel slightly slugish off the line, but once the V8 starts roaring, u can feel the torque really take u back.
i wish i still had the GS so i can compare it head to head.
but this is how i recall it...and how i see it.
