Fuel Gauge?
I'm not certain how you could tell if you actually have 10 gals remaining in your gas tank when the fuel gauge is reading in the middle, but when the needle is on empty in my car I have about 2 gals left in the tank.
If you have the Navigation system it tells you how much further you can travel with whats left in the tank.
As for the fuel gauge, its pretty acurate, but unfortunatley everyone elses G is diff. With breather mods you lose MPG and it begins to decrease. The best thing to do is if your stock, you should be fill your tank up and keep track of how far you travel. Just write down the distance travel off of your odometer incomparison to where the gauge needle is. If you know how much you have in the tank from the fill up, you get a ruff estimate of how much you each level is when traveling.
Well thats the way i do it since i don't have the stock nav

Is 1/2 on the gauge really 10 Gal left etc?

The gauge needle didn't come off the full mark for about 50 miles either meaning it was indicating a little optimistic.
Bottom line: don't trust the gauge too much, and get some idea of how much fuel you have at a corresponding gauge level.
