Awesome. Thanks to everyone for the replies. Look slike it's an X50 or a V1.

Decisions, decisions.

I got a ticket, the first in about 15 years, and I was clearly speeding (85 in a 65). He got me with radar. I just laughed when he came up and said "Do you know how fast you were going?". I admitted my guilt and said that if I knew I was destined for a ticket I would have had a little more fun getting it. I'll be going to safety school to get it dismissed so I have I can't get anymore or I'll have to pay for those and they'll go on my record.

I think every city should have an open track or a toll road with a couple of free speed lanes. ...Maybe when I'm President.

I run an X50. If you ever speed, you must have radar. I am very nervous driving without mine. It has paid for itself over and over and over again.

Beware the instant on. The only effective way to speed is to pace another speeder about 50 to 100 yards behind. When he clocks them, you will have just enough warning to slow down. You don’t want to be the lead car. You will get a ticket eventually.

Its also a good idea to speed in the right lane. Pop into the left only long enough to pass semi trucks etc. Since radar really only works from the front or back, hiding behind giant trucks keeps you hidden from his eyes and his radar waves.

Finally, keep your eyes on the road and your mirrors. He will use instant on when he sees you. You use your brakes when you see him. It’s a game of reflexes, like drag racing on green.

i have a escort solo s2. although i would recommend a v1 since they can be updated with the latest firmwire. however, IMO radar detectors dont do much if you live in a big city like LA, Chicago, NYC. They go off constantly to CVS, Walgreens, Wal-MArt and etc stores that use electric doors. In the long run they are more annoying than effective for me. However, if you live in small town or suburb they are very effective due to most signals would actually be from a police radar gun.

x50 just saved me the other night. Coming home on I-270 around 2 and it goes off. Was going around 70 or so. Come to see a cop car on the right side with no lights on nothing. x50 was catching the ka from the car. I bet if I didn't slow down I would have gotten one for sure. Hardly anyone else was on the road at that time.

I have the Escort SR7 with laser shifter. About 3 months ago I passed a cop on the side of the road while doing 80mph in a 40mph. He clearly had his speed gun pointed at me. As I passed him he proceeded to point the speed gun at the vehicles behind me. I guess the laser shifter really works.

Good advise. I often do the right lane thing and hide behind trucks, other speeders, etc. This time I got caught I consider it a fair catch. I was hiding behind a truck and I decided to shoot out past it. About a hundred or so yards after emerging I was allowing the car to decel slowly to a lesser speed and I saw him hiding in a grassy median. His lights came on and I pulled over before he even got turned around out of his spot. I had to give him props for being well hidden. He got me on decel at about 80 MPH. Good thing too because I was doing 100 before I backed off. We didn't say much to each other but I did compliment him on good hunting. He just laughed and told me to enjoy traffic school.

Laser jammers are illegal, but shifters are not. (original post edited)

The only time I have ever gotten a ticket was when I was not using a radar detector. It has not made a difference which model/brand radar detector I was using at the time. From a $100 dectector to a $300 dectector they have all worked for me. Of course, NJ still uses x band radar most of the time. Right now I use the Passport 8500.

v1 has saved me many many times. ive never used the x50 but from what i can tell they are pretty much the same thing except for the directional arrows which some people will argue are useless. if you hear a beep slow down! i personally like the arrows and the concealed display option of the v1.

several saves for me in about 18 months...but i dont drive too fast. i save my speed-limit-breaking excursions for road trips. i have an escort passport x50

2 memorable saves for me, but i have had numerous "blips" on the detector during interstate driving. whenever i see K or Ka in the middle of nowhere, i almost always notice a cop somewhere down the road.

save #1 - was going approx 75 in a 45, went thru an intersection...there was a cop stopped at the light. he gunned me, but i slammed on my brakes right when the detector went crazy. he mustve never gotten a good reading, because he only gave me a warning.

save #2 - was cruising in the middle of nowhere on the interstate, 100-105mph. detector goes wild at the top of a hill, so i slam on the brakes and set cruise @ speed limit (75). couple minutes later, a cop comes romping up behind me and pulls me over. ended up getting a ticket for 84 in a 75. the cop said that gun #1 said 86, and gun #2 said 84, so it mustve locked on right when i was slamming on the brakes. still got a ticket...but 9 over the limit is a LOT better than 30 over
