6MT vs 5AT

As it's been said above, either you are good or you suck!! I'm very comfortable driving stick and YES... it is a lot more fun.
However, I drove an automatic g35 sedan a couple of months ago (courtesy dealer car) and I just loved it!!!!!!!! You can put it on "manual" mode and change gears at the desired RPM. I will be very honest with all you guys, the car becomes a lot more responsive and the gear is changed very smoothly. That was my first experience with an automatic car with tiptronic transmission. If I could go back in time, I would have bought a 5at G35 instead of the 6MT. It is not as fun to drive, but the tiptronic transmission is just awesome!!!!!

OK, back to the question. Yes, it takes a bit to get use to the G (I have a 6 MT coupe, btw) with a 6MT, but once you do, you'll love it. I drive in L.A. traffic everyday (half freeway on the 405 "aka 405 parking lot") but I never get tired of it. What I do is let the guy go ahead of me for about 4 cars length (yeah, the guys behind me usually gets annoyed
) and then I give it a nice 1-2 shift and hear the exhaust notes. It's so cool to do that during traffic
As for stalling the car and causing an accident? Nah, that most likely won't happen. Only time you'll stall the car while learning is when you are learning the engagement point of the clutch, which usually is when you are stopped and are ready to go.
Just like the constant performance battle of 6 mt vs 5 at, finding out which one is easier to drive is also a constant battle.
Just get the one you like. Try both. Drive both. The line that seperates them is so thin nowadays, that both are great options.
Personally for me I had to get an automatic car, so hands down the g35 was the best choice for the price. If I had to get a stick car then it probably would have been a g35, or a zo6 corvette. I do like how the MT g35s come with the 19 inch wheels, and sports suspension and freaking LSD. I wish I had LSD. O yea, and the orange leather stiching on my steering wheel.

I got the 5AT coupe simply because I drive so much all the time and I thought it seriously would get kinda annoying to drive stick all the time. Also I am not extremely familiar with stick shift as of yet but I've driven my bro's 05 GTI with stick and it was fun, took me about 20 mins to learn and then I was so so. Now he got a 06 GTI and I tried to drive it but the clutch is so sensitive that I just kept stalling lol.. I'm sure that if I put some more time into learning it a bit more I'd be very good with it but for now I was set on the 5AT and my dad was against me drivin stick anyway, since I just had an accident with my now-totalled Mustang
As others have said though, try to learn (if time is on your side) how to drive stick properly, and if you like it enough and feel it is what you desire in a car, then go for it. Other than that I don't see why 5AT would be a bad choice, lots of people get the G35 with automatic. Besides, you get the tiptronic with it which is a lot of fun, it sort of gives you a feeling of what manual is like but without the hassle of clutch and stalling. This is why I went with 5AT.

...but honestly..its all about the driving experience you are looking for. I drove an automatic for 4 years before deciding to get the G in stick. I am so glad that I did. Not only do you have complete control over the car, and get the rewarding feeling of being one with the car (vibrating shifter..depressing the clutch..putting the stick into the gate..) it really livened up my driving experience. I had fun driving my car before..but the G in stick just makes it that much more fun to go out and drive. I basically learned to drive stick on the G. it plain out sucked at first..but within 2 weeks you are driving just fine. its now been months and its seriously second nature. Theres really nothing more that brings a smile to my face besides taking the G out and driving very "spirited" and shoving the shifter in gear. It becomes a challenge to see how well you can shift even. Traffic has not bothered me as I dont live in an innercity. I love being able to pop it into neutral and go down hills too.
Do not let the fear of learning stick deter you from getting the G in stick. it will be well worth your while

I could not agree more. I exclusively drive stick shifts, and I love to "speed shift" my car, and when I do nobody can wipe the smile out of my face!

And I do not regret about the choice I made, even though I was a hardcore shift-stick-only type of a driver. Time changes, the technology advances, sometimes it is able to keep up with our desires. And this is the case with 5AT on the G.
6speed! hands down- you'll love it! my G was my first stick, had it since Nov. of last year, and I never get bored of it! I'm fine in traffic. Gosh, I mean, the stick is just awesome, no question about it! You'll be fine after about a month! And, you get major props from everybody else- woo hoo!
I've always driven a stick.
I got a 5AT G because my wife dosen't know how to drive a stick and wanted to be able to drive the car also. I love the car but I totally miss the driving experience with a stick. I just think the 6MT would be so much more fun to drive, not more practical...just fun!
The only time that I'm glad I got a 5AT is when we are leaving the bars and my wife has to drive!...haha.

I have to admit, the auto is pretty darn smooth on the G but it is very twitchy. What I mean is, you step on the gas...it moves but not a lot until you give it a little more and it takes off a bit too fast. I had a few times where I almost rear ended someone with the loaner *phew*. Also, this is the first tiptronic transmission I've driven but it has a bad 1/2 - 1 second lag. Hard to describe but when you change gears and you are flooring it, it takes about 1/2 - 1 second until it takes off.

in advance...i was expecting the shifts to be way faster...you get used to it though
