Get that and you can mount your radar detector to your rearview mirror and just plug that straight into the powered mirror, if you have one.

The hardwire kit is pretty nice tho, it has the lights and mute button built into it. I like mine alot and it would be annoying to have to reach all the time to mute your radar.

^^Maybe not to everyone, I for one don't have 2 houres to run to the hardware store and make my own wire. Ill just buy it, I can spare the change for a cord.
Yes, you just plug the wire into the mirror. It is very simple, instructions are included.

The Invisicord is not a rip-off. It is a great product. Sure you can save $5 bucks by making one yourself but a couple of hours of my time is worth a lot more than $5.
I have the invisicord with Mike's Mount and it works and looks great.

Maybe he didn't mean rip-off, just that if you are into DIY projects, you could save money.
Sure I could make my own tv projector, by using the kit from www.lumenlab.com, then buying a 15" LCD monitor, stripping it down, and putting everything together in a wooden box to build a highdef projector for $400, or I could spend $900 for one already made. Just another example of what I assume he meant.
Savings by making your own cord, there is some I guess:
Trip to Radio Shack, locate pieces needed, with the wonderfully helpful folks that work there hovering over you -> $1.75 in gas
Buy black phone cord (unless you have some) and some of the crimp connectors -> $5-8
Time to cut, and strip phone insulation off the 26 gauge wire, crimp on connectors, flatten them to fit, shrink tube, or electrical tape them. -> 1 hour @ $5.15 min. wage
Total spent in time and money: roughly $11.90 to $14.90
Buy one already made, and has a 6 mo warranty and directions: $14.00
So you might save $2.00 at most, if you do it correctly the first time. If not, just add more time and money, and you could have substantially more tied up in this. Just speaking from experience from when I first started making these.
