easiest way is to use the pen tool and make a path around the edges of whatever it is. (i hope you know how to use the tool) go to paths pallete and click the arrow pullout >>> click save path. now go to the bottom of that pallete and click make selection. now copy & paste. go to layers and delete or hide original and your done. there are other ways to do this but im a graphic designer and this is by far the easiest and most precise way.

go to your Layer panel I think its F7 there is a tab in there called Channels. You can save a channel as whatever you want and that will be the shiloutte. This is off the top of my head.

This is what I did. I took my picture which starts off with a white background and then I use the magic wand tool, I get all the areas and then I go to EDIT, and then CLEAR. Now, I would like to use this as my avatar so I color matched the avatar background on this forum however when I do it you can still say some of the square, can anyone help me? I need step by step instructions so that when saving it as an avatar there is no square around it, thanks.

The merge layer is not a highlighted option. Still when all is said and done, it still remains a square behing the pictures in my avatar. Does anyone know why, PLEASE HELP! Thanks.

No, see if you go to save that as an AVATAR the WHITE BACKGROUND and SQUARE still remain. I do not want that.

Thanks for your help. I tired the same exact thing, all colors on this forum and you can still see the square and background if saving as an avatar. Anyone else?
