Stillen Hi Flow CAI and Gas mileage
Wow, I installed it with the Z tube last week and it performs great. However, I have notice a huge difference in my Gas Mileage. Now It's really bad. Maybe 14 MPG if that. Lucky if I get 200 miles per tank?? It feel like every time I punch it, the fuel indicator moves down a notch.
Is this to be expected? Did I do something worng during the install? Please share your opinions!!!!

your just driving harder then u did befor ur mod. give it a week of two and ur driving habits will return to normal. your gas millage will go up. its not a question of weather or not it will go up it only a question of when. the CIA and Hi flow cats will deffently help the gas millage.

I don't think it's a change in driving habit. I'm pretty sure I've been driving the same way I have been prior to the mod. I've noticed my mileage fluctuate. Mainly, in-town driving = 16-17+ mpg. Highway = 22+ mpg. I'm pretty sure I was getting more like 19-20+ in town prior to the mod.

sorry buddy but the air just makes for a better explosion which = more power. its change the air to fuel ratio to have more air. The Hi-flow cats should deffently incress ur gas millage. Just give it some time and ur millage will come back up. Also remember that its getting colder and the colder it gets means the more fuel it takes to start the car. I dont know why it takes more fuel but i read that on this forum. So i would not be conserned about it just give it some time and it will come back up.

. . . er, you can't get more power unless you burn more fuel. You can get more efficient use of a specific amount of fuel by optimizing the fuel/air mixture via passive means (headers, exhaust, intake) or by active means (boost) with turbos, blowers, or N2O. All of these mods use considerably more fuel to provide added power.
Now, that said, if a stock automobile and a similar one but heavily modified with boost and efficiency mods were to accelerate at the same rate and then cruise at the same speed, they would theoretically use the same amount of fuel (in a closed system). However, once the modified vehicle accelerates faster than the capabilities of stock, more fuel must be consumed in order to provide that benefit. This is especially true at WOT, where, coincidentally, these mods are often used.

I'm thinkin' at low speeds, you will not see a great benefit in the CAI. It's not until you really floor it do you see some gains. If there's little gains at the low end, I'm assuming, because of the increase in air, the amount of fuel being consumed is too much, resulting in lower MPG around town. I don't think the air/fuel is the optimum ratio at the low end. It would sound like a fuel pressure regulator or some other tuning is necessary to make these CAI operate more efficiently at the low end. Does this sound right?
