Overlays illegal???

I want to tint the tail lights of my car. Thinking about the overlays, fully tinted or partially. Not sure yet, but are these illegal in new york. I just got a bunch of tickets so I'm not looking to get anymore LOL. But i like the look of smoked taillights. thanks for help

From what I understand if it lowers the light output enough so you can't see them from the required distance or blocks the reflector they are not DOT approved and are illegal. I think my GTR's are illegal here in AZ but no cop has ever given me any crap for them and I have had lots follow me.

Even with my darker 6/10 tints, the red reflectors are still quite visible . Email me if you decide to order .

i have the dark overlays on my car and i never had a problem in nyc. but just remember, if someone rear ends you they could possibly use your tinted rearlights against you.
