what tires are you switching to???

Hey guys been running the michelin pilots on my 04 6mt with the brembo sport kit have 26,000 and have reached my wear limt for the second time on the rears and about 30 percent left on the front. I know these wear kinda fast i also have the same set on my wifes 04 Mercedes S55 and i have 28,000 and have already replaced the rears twice also i know theres so many brands out there are there any reccomendations out there on a tire that doenst wear as fast been looking at the KDW's and thats about it as far as i havent done much reasearch as of yet just looking for some suggestions for the price to wear of the pilots the tires are just burning money everytime i get out on the road. I dont race and its all freeway driving..

If you're looking for a comparable all season tire to the michelin Pilot Sport A/S then i'd look into the Bridgestone RE960AS pole position. They are great tires with a 40k mile warranty and at a fraction of the cost, you cant beat em.

I love the KDW2's. Much more stickier in dry and wet conditions, they last way...way longer, look much better and even sidewalls, and they cost way less.. There is one downside though, they are louder. Solution....I spent $70 on eDead (like dynamat) and lined my trunk and a few other places and it's now quieter than stock.

Do you own the 960AS or have first hand knowledge? My Michelin A/S are always close to the top in ratings and I've liked them for the last 30K but they need to go before the rainy season. The Bridgestone's you mention are in my top three. Those being: Michelin A/S again, the 960AS and I'm also intrigued by the Avon 550 A/S. These have very good reviews on Tirerack and at a substantial discount over the other two choices in my size (235 50 17). The only minus I can discern from the reviews is slightly more input needed on very hard cornering vs the Michelin otherwise they look to be a great tire and value.

The Bridgestones are not that much less than the Michelins right now as there is a special going on. In my size the Michelins are $181, Bridgestones $169 and the Avons $131. Occasionally I do see discounts on Bridgestone tires though. I do kind of hold a grudge against Bridgestone for the crappy Turanzas (EL42) that came stock on the G. Those tires were downright lousy IMO.

if you arent driving like you stole it, you probably dont need "z" rated tires like pilots...i think theyre designed for up to 180mph? i went with nittos (see my sig)..which are z-rated also.

i suggest www.tirerack.com and search for the pilot sports a/s (all season) and look at comparable tires. the brand names (IMO) are mostly meaningless.

nitto nt-555 front and nitto nt-555-r [ drag radial ] rear

the drag radials are awesum ,hook like a mother ,great in the rain untill they get low tread , stable on the highway.. if u need more corner traction they have an nt-555-rr for the street/autocross guys

i use drag radials year round in florida on my cobra and mach1 get 12-17k life

I went with the KDW2's on the rear and like them. The are not all season and just a pure performance tire though. So don't try to use them in the snow. They are Z rated which is in conformity for our vehicle. Below is a link to a writeup on them. When I got mine, I got a 40 or 50K warranty with them, which is nice since I am going through them faster than the projected warranty.

Check out the goodyear eagle gs-d3. They are directional tires, but i can tell you from the florida rain that they are amazing.
