Re: G Coupe vs. 1998 BMW M3
if performance is your goal.
then think about
cobra svt
wrx sti
evo 8
although the g is like a 98 m3, pretty well balanced.
performance wise, the coupe may be a little slower.
if your lucky it will be the same mid 5 second car your use to.
test drive one, its your best bet.

The new M3 is a cut above the coupe. If money is no object, go for a new M3. The coupe is an outstanding car for the money, but there "are" better cars out there if money is not a concern. It all ends up being a personal choice and be cautious taking advise from anyone who is not directly familiar with the dynamics of an M3. I would buy an new M3 over a coupe if they were not so stupid expensive as they are here in Canada. The M3 is almost $ 23,000.00 more here than the coupe. Made my decision easy.

Absolutely, I agree with you telegramsam. I also looked at a new M3 before deciding on a coupe. Just the price difference just doesn't justify what you get. When it comes to bang for the buck you would be hard pressed to find something better than the G coupe. However, if money isn't you first concern. Go with the M3. It's the world's best performing 6 cylinder car. Only car's that cost well over a 100 grand american will touch it.

Hey Coupeman, I test drove a C32 AMG before I bought my G35C. It's a six (supercharged) and about the same price as an M3. I'm pretty sure it'll touch it.

Hey Lawman, I forgot all about that Benz. Good point. It is after all supercharged though so that will put a bit more stress on the engine compared to the not supercharged M3 so reliability may be a factor. Still though, I'm sure the M3 would have its hands full. Thanks for pointing that out.

You and I share the same dilema. Mine turns 5 yrs old in two weeks, and I've kept the mileage down - currently under 54k miles. Biggest problem I have is that while there is more leg room in the G35c, there is absolutely more head room in the M3. Won't commit until I drive one and see how it wears.

I would not be too concerned about engine stress in a benz, especially an AMG, they really do make extremely reliable engines..... transmissions as well... i have an 82 380SEL benz and runs great still..... needs a paint job though :/
replaced the engine 2 years ago from a 420 benz...dam its fast for tank
i wish i can afford a newer benz
