Am I making a mistake?

I have a deposit down on a G35 Coupe DG/G/Prem/5AT, which I'm supposed to take delivery on in about 2 weeks. But after reading so many posts from owners complaining about everything from bad paint to bad trannys and brakes, now I'm having second thoughts. Help! I'm in love with the car, but I need a reliable ride. Does anyone have a reliable G35 with a decent paint job?

Re: Am I making a mistake?
For every one complaint you hear, there are at least 100 people who are experiencing smooth sailing. There are over 6,000 members, and a handful have complained about serious problems. Just keep that in mind-- and that Infiniti was ranked #1 for customer service, so if you DO have a problem, you're well taken care of. The paint (on mine, at least) is fine IF you protect it. Zaino, CG, etc. and you'll not have to worry about it.

Get it, you'll love it.

Re: Am I making a mistake?
yea bro theres plenty of people out there that have had the best of luck with there rides....me being one of them...but yea there have been some people that have had bad luck with trannies, i dunno about the paint, i havent had a problem with either...could be the 400 coats of CG haha, but thats another thread all together...but yea man your going to see way more smiles on a G drivers face then frowns.... Be assured of your choice to get the True ultimate driving machine....and its sad to say but if you wanted reliability you should have gotten a honda, Oh and the Brembos are great my only gripe is that my choice of aftermarket rims are reduced because of those fat dirty basterds

No problems with mine either, but as with any new car these days, expect paint chips if you spend much time at high speed on busy interstates. If that's the case, I'd strongly suggest you get a clear bra immediately.

That aside, my '03 DG/G/6MT/Prem/Nav/Aero G35C is the best car I've ever owned. By far. WAY far.

Re: Am I making a mistake?
I have a DG Prem. 2003 6MT, and it's a great car. I have not yet brought my car in to fix any warranty problems. Actually I have only one, chips on my step panel under the door. Nothing else, nothing! I've slightly moded it:

2003.5 Center Console
Clear Corners (look Great on a DG Car)
Chrome Oil Filler Cap
Grounding Kit
Dual Exhaust system
Crawford Plenum
K&N Air Filter
350Z Intake Tube
18" Nismo Wheels with Dunlop SP9000s (245/40 and 275/40)

Trust me, I would not have made these mods (improved the car) if I didn't love it. It's a great car. Go, my son, and be happy.

PS: Paint is beautiful, do have a couple of chips on the front bumper. I try to keep two coats of wax on it at all times. My last car, a Lexus SC300 5MT coupe also had chips on the bumper, and I repainted it twice.

Re: Am I making a mistake?
Thanks for the reassurances. I'm definately getting the car. There's nothing out there even close for the money! Just had a momentary lapse of judgement. I guess I'll also be buying CG by the case. If that's the price I have to pay to keep the finish cherry, then so be it!

It will do nothing against rock chips. Get the clear bra to be sure.

What color do you have again? I'm too lazy to go back and check The clear-bra is definitely the way to go on some colors (there are reports of it yellowing on Ivory Pearl, etc.)-- but if you get a rock chip, it'll most likely create a dimple or small tear in the clear bra.

Do both CG and clearbra for best protection... chemically speaking, CG will protect you from a bunch of chips. My car had a few chips from rocks (I live on a gravel road, too), but then I got in an accident a few months ago and have had a new hood/bumper for two months now-- CGed it the day I got it back, and not a single chip. Kinda freaky, but it makes me a believer.

Re: Am I making a mistake?
Even though Gs may have some minor issues here and there, it's a great car. As a G owner coming from a Mercedes, I found that many G owners have more than high expectations for their cars. Unlike most Mercedes owners who have such a high tolerance for Mercedes build that they can live with all the creaks and squeaks, window regulator failures, and many more, G owners, based on my observation, tend to have a very high expectation out of their cars compared to Mercedes owners. So reliability is not a issue here. You should be concerned whether you can get the coupe or not since it's such a hot commodity.

Mine's Diamond Graphite.

There's a lot of evidence at this point to show that the reason you are getting no chipping after your body work is because of the non-factory paint applied by the body shop, not the Crystal Guard. I put CG on my car 3 weeks after delivery and still got tons of rock chips, at the same rate I was getting them before, which was nearly every time I drove the car. I too had a minor accident that required replacement/repainting of the bumper, and it has been chip-free ever since, without any CG on it. I'm hoping to put some on before the weather shuts me out though. It did make the car shine beautifully, and was very easy to apply.

Re: Am I making a mistake?
My car will be DG. Does it chip any worse than the other colors? Also, the dealer wants $1300 for installing the clear bra. Does anyone know where I can get it installed for less (considerably less) in the Northern VA area?

Re: Am I making a mistake?
Holy Moly dude, $1300.00 for a Clear Bra??? Call this guy, Frank O'Grady 866-444-6888. He is a mobile installer, and he did my buddies 350Z, and I have him scheduled next week to do my G35 Coupe. He charged my friend like $900.00 or something like that. He has been doing this stuff for over 6 years, and his work is unbelieveable. I know that he travels pretty much up and down the entire East Coast, so I am sure he can help you out. Anyway, call him and see what he says. Good Luck!!!
