lmao! your friends are just jealous! depending on the state, you'll most likely get in trouble for failing emissions / SMOG testing but thats a long while away, you can just swap back your stock cats when that comes. Strup TP's are good, but you should also check out the Fast Intentions TP's. and NO, you won't go to jail

I've been to several Hot Import Nights shows where
after the show the cops just wait for us to leave.
They just pull everyone over, check out their rides
and impound the ones that do not meet Ca. smog
regualtions. They wouldn't know if your had after-
market cats but they could sure tell if you were
running testpipes!

 

+1, not sure about the HIN thing, but ya, in cali if you get pulled over your car could potentially get you impounded for test pipes. you could always go with an e-cutout instead, it sounds crazy and if you get pulled over just close it up

1. Depends how you drive. hope you live in florida. no emmisions, no smog, no inspection... hell you can drive an open fisherman in the street if it was possible.
2. It is very possible to go to jail in first pull over. Want to test it? Take 5 shots of tequila, and JUST drive. jail has the best cookies. Honestly.
3. they are loud.

regarding the HIN thing. In LA they only look for stolen parts. As long as you keep your cool and leave, you don't have to worry. In Nor-Cal the San Jose police got in big trouble for doing that. Test pipes are a ticket and fine, not impound. If your car has multiple illegal parts they could get away with impounding, but even that is rare. I have been around the import tuning scene for 13 years and I have only heard of 1 instance of impounding just for illegal parts. All other instances were because of street racing related crimes. I know so many people in here So Cal that use test pipes, non of them have ever had a problem, period.
