What are these for ?????

Took apart my trunk today ready for dynamating and found these vents behind the original matting, does anybody know what they are for as i think they maybe the cause of the exhaust noise getting into the trunk and causing a lot of the vibrations. There is one on each side behind the wheel arch but they seem to come out between the car skins in the bodywork and not under the wheel arch. Maybe they are air vents for if a child gets locked in the trunk. Your input would be great as i would like to dynamat over them but not sure i should.

Those are one way vents used to allow positive pressure to escape from the cabin. It would be best NOT to cover them up. In the event of multi airbag deployment, you would have a good deal of pressure inside the vehicle trying to escape.

Oh ok thanks,

i guess they will stop my eardrums from popping under air pressure so best i leave them alone, bit of a shame though as a lot of my Injen exhaust noise/vibration seems to come from them.

it's an emergency exit, in case of a water landing.

You don't like the sound of your exhaust?
