Exclamation Help! Need response quick! Car at stealership now!

Hey all,

My car is at dealership now to get tranny fluid changed and a fuel hose recall... they just called me and said my front brakes are basically shot and want to know if i'd like THEM to replace.

They told me I need all new brake pads, and new rotors since they're SO rusted, they can't resurface them. I only have 50,000 miles on my car and had them changed not 15,000 miles ago!!! What a friggin rip off....I feel like they're ripping me off, since they aren't even squeeling yet!

Do i let them do it the total cost is $530!!!!???

I mean gosh, how much can rotors and brakes cost??!! Any suggestions? I need to call them back soon... I'm thinking NO.... but I havent researched how the most cost effective way to go about changing brakes ... Thanks everyone

$530 doesn't sound bad for 4 rotors and new brake pads plus install...but i would say no and get an aftermarket brake upgrade package...here's one just to give

you an idea http://www.g35parts.com/9083/osc/pro...roducts_id=295

check the marketplace for different packages and better deals

The rotors on my 1991 300ZX have 186,000 miles on them. Still smooth. I just ordered a set of rotors from Z1 Motorsports. I figured its finally time to replace them.

alright yeah after reading up on changing brake pads, I think i'll just do the buy at Autozone -- they have rotors 2 for 198.00 and 2 brakepads 2 for 60.

Think I'll just have at it myself... that's a savings of $280 Unbelieveable. Those idiots i dont understand them. Such a rip off...and they know it.

(Now comes the venting about the pads) What the heck is up with our cars anyway? Why do they go thru brakes like water? I mean seriously, i JUST had my brakes AND rotors changed at 35,000 miles...and i'm due for another? If its going to be like this every 15,000 miles, this car ALMOST isn't worth it( I said almost, i love this car I have to admit) but what the frick is up with the brakes??!? Seems like Infiniti purposefully puts bad brakes on there or something...

I would take the car home, inspect the brakes and rotors, and If I would determine that in fact I do need them, I would buy OEM parts just not from a stealership. Go to chad from this forum or everythingg35.com.
My car is going to the dealer next week so they can check my rear caliper since one pad is worn more than others. They said they will not warranty the pads, so I ordered them from Chad, and if they will charge me labor on pads I will not let them change the pads. Well, good luck to you in any event.

A friend of mine just took her pathfinder into the dealership for her 30,000 checkup and they called and said you need new front brakes. $782.00.. I took her to get the car back yesterday and got so pissed for her.. I said look Jen.. 190.00 in parts and the 500 and something in labor and than tax.. I had to keep my mouth shut while I was in there... they ARE STEALERSHIPS!!!

Is it better to order OEM parts from a place like EverythingG35.com or just go to autozone? I'm not impressed with the OEM stuff this far...seeing I'm replacing them every 20 thousand miles on average.

What about Duralast brakes or something similar from the corner PepBoys or Autozone... will that do the trick?

I think you should stay away from PepBoys or Autozone.. I remember seeing a thread on this.. hopefully the poster will repost or somoene with more time than I have right now will find it.. but there are recommended pads for our car that do not cause the break dust, etc that our OEM's do.. and since your picking them up yourself.. minus well do it right... you know?

Is your "Tin roof....rusted" (B-52's). That's a joke for them to call and say they need to be replaced because of surface rust as being one of the reasons. Every morning after it rains, my rotors have surface rust on them that wipes right off after I apply the brakes for 10 seconds. Furthermore, rust on the hub part of the rotor is normal. Based on that fact alone, I'd tell the stealership to pound sand. Order rotors and pads online and DIY. It's easy to do and shouldn't take more than 2hrs with the right tools.

Why so cheap I cant tell you but I can tell you they are reputable...I have ordered from them a few times and been happy and received OEM parts.. I believe they are an Infiniti dealer out in AZ

dealers always mark up, usually by 100% the cost of parts whether they pay wholesale or retail. so if its an aftermarket part theyre selling you go somewhere else and compare the cost. you cant bitch about the cost of labour. little of it is profit, they have to pay the tech, his insurance, the cost of the shop,... they make theyre money on parts not labour.
