Considering a G35 Coupe 6MT

Well this is my first post on the forums but I've been doing some research over the past few days on this board and other places.

I was in a hit and run collision in my 00 S2000 about a week ago and I'm almost sure the car will be totalled which means I have to find a new car. Even if it isn't I was planning on selling it to get something newer anyway.

I've always liked the G35's so I don't need to be convinced they're nice cars. I don't think they will handle as well as my S2000 but on paper it's not that much worse. The one alarming thing I've come across while researching is the oil consumption issues the VQ's have. It seems to be mostly affecting the 05/06 years which is the year I'm considering purchasing. I got tired of reading so I figured I'd make a post to see if there's any more recent information on this as well as if anyone else has any pro's and con's about the G35's they'd like to suggest.

Thanks in advance.

Marc

going from s2k to g35 is pretty much as close as it gets in my opinion, i have an 06 6mt and i have no oil problems, as far as going from an s2k to a g35.. You wont like the tranny as much. I heard the s2k has a very smooth tranny the g35 is ruff. have u given it a test drive yet?

how many miles do you have on your 06? yeah the s2k tranny is one of the best shifting trannies i've ever driven. I drove my friend's 04 z06 the other day and it was a lil rough but i can deal with it. i need to test drive one but i'm sure i'll like it. the only reason i even worry about handling is because i autocross the s2000 (just started).

<~~ 11,000 miles now. i love it, but it does NOT auto-X like an s2000. you can mod it, and it has more potential than an s2000 imo , though you can reach better numbers cheaper in an s2000.

you get AALLOOOOTT MORE space. ive sat in an s2000 and get annoyed of the fact that i barely can move around.

i don't care really for modding it much or power numbers really. i had a 511whp civic when i had the s2000 and got rid of it cause i was tired of the pursuit of power. i loved the s2000 stock cause it was a blast to drive and it handled like a gokart. when i say it handled a lil worse than the s2000 i was just comparing skidpad #'s. car and driver posted the s2000 pulling 0.93G and had the G @ 0.90G. despite knowing it won't handle like the S i would do away with some of the handling for a little more practicality and comfort as a trade off between the two. i'm still considering a newer s2000 anyway but I was more concerned with reliability/longevity issues than anything else.

if youre ready to upgrade to a luxury car with power and handling, get the G. if youre into modifying and racing, stick to the s2k.

on handling... i don't know about that. an s2000 will out handle a g35 hands down. that's not a question. power wise... they're not much diff in straightline speed either. as for modifications. either car would be staying stock.
