OK- I can't answer the question directly, so don't flame me for it...BUT:

Cars I have beaten to 60 and the 1/4 are :

2005 and 2006 Vette - non Z06
2006 M5
2006 and 2005 M3
2004 Porsche 911 Turbo

So there are some to compare by....Rick

Vortech w/3.12 pulley - 3.92 gears and little more as well.

How do the 3.92 gears help? Im a little confused as to what they do. Do they make certain gears longer or shorter? Dont bother showing me that chart with the numbers because i dont know how to read it...

I have 425whp with my AT5 Vortech and 3.5 rear end . 1st and 2nd are useless . I never can go WOT in either gear . I would amagine the 3.9 in an AT5 is even worse . Cruising at 65 mph I think Im at 2300rpm . The 3.9 should be around 2600rpm . Sentry has the 3.9 in his car also

thats how i compare each car's speed too
i know that the avg. 0-60 for an 06 Z06 is 3.7.. and 3.2 for a carrera GT

And the 'slower' 0-60 car might have had skinnier tires that prevented the car from utilizing all of its power initially. So, it is possible that the 'slower' car will actually make it to a 1/4mile FASTER than the other car. Because once the 'slower' car gets good traction, it might be able to use all of its power more efficiently over a longer distance.

Think about it, if I am in my car and I want to race a human being 0-10mph, the human being will win nearly all of the time because they can start really really quickly. But after 10mph you and I both know that 300horses can outaccelerate that human and keep on building speed.

So if 0-10mph were your only measure one would view a human on foot as being 'faster' than a 300hp car.

Let me know if that makes sense...

thanks for clarifying it... those examples helped
i guess you're right.. 0-60 doesn't show the true potential of a car's speed

Bottom line is that the gears are shorter - so your RPM's go through faster to redline - and when you shift, the car gets to optimal power band much quicker. You spend less time in each gear.

I don't know about cruising speed RPM's for 60-65 - never really looked, but my 80MPH is 3600 - so likely around 3K for 60-65 - I'll check next time I'm out.

How does it make your gears shorter...does it lower your top speed at all or does it make 5th gear longer...because if 1st through 3rd are short doesnt that mean 4th and 5th would have to be longer to make up for it....?
