well i don't someone else messing with my car. if i mess it up i have no one to blame but myself, but if i let someone else screw it up they will fix it either with money or a trip to the emergency room. *kidding* but i would definitely flip s hit

+1 Detailing is a learned skill! Knowing the proper technique, correct products to use and when to use comes after years of experience and trial and error. The weekend warriors who think their wash and wax is just as good.....well, nothing against them, but that's just a ham & egger job. If you can do a wash and wax and be satisfied with the results, more power to ya. If that's the case, do it yourself.
If you are a more than a car enthusiast and a detailing enthusiast, then you won't mind investing the $$ in the proper tools, pads, polishes, etc. You don't have to know how to wax your car to be a car enthusiast. I probably couldn't rip the motor out of the G, tear it down, rebuild it and put it back in and expect it to work the same as before I touched it. Does that make me less of a car enthusiast?
Any ham & egger can give his car a coat of wax every 2 months, but a detailing enthusiast will want to know proper paint correction, defect removal, waterspot removal, polishing techniques....etc etc. They are not as easy as the some of the guys like Picus on here make it out to be. Guys like Picus do hundreds of cars a year vs the average jo that may do his or her car a few times a year and maybe a family members. With practice comes skill gentleman!
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and 99% of people would think a freshly waxed car looks great but a detailing junky can probably pick it apart in seconds!

who's Picus? And how do i get in touch with him to detail my car?
Some of you guys like detaling your own car, and thats great. But, I on the other hand hate it. As Diesel1 mentioned, I think true detailing is a skill. True, I could go out to Pep Boys and purchase all the equipment to do it myself, but I have no clue on what to do or how to get the most shine. I don't think I would ever trust myself using a power tool on my car.
It's almost like saying....'why go out to Carl's Jr.for a $6 hamburger when you can cook one yourself for less and use better ingredients?'
Answer---> For the convenience and cuz most of us can't cook a burger as well as some fast food joints.

well i wouldn't use a powertool on my car and i don't. i wax by hand. its a pain in the ***, but it shines great. i use that stuff that you spray on the car while it is still wet. its from eagle 1. great stuff. the towel just glides across the hood with ease and leaves a perfect shine. minimal time. and with a small car like a g it should take no more than two hours to fully detail with wash. dry. wax. vacuum. leather conditioner. dash conditioner. tire cleaner. tire shine. wheel cleaner. but hey if you don't wanna do it you don't have too.
