anyone mind double-checking a newbie?

so i got a 2006 g35 coupe in october, premium/sport, and.... yeah... 5AT. totally regret not getting the automatic, i'd trade back to stick in a second. sportronic shifting sucks, nothing even close to having a clutch. i love the automatic while i'm in stop and go traffic climbing over the hill on the 405... but i really feel like i made a BIG_MISTAKE picking the 5AT.
but... what's done is done, all in all i'm really happy with my car! i'm looking to do a couple mods in january, i've done all the searching through the forums, found TONS of good information, i just kinda want to make sure i got all the information straight.
goals are to spend around $500 on parts for phase 1 and to be able to do it myself. sound isn't really too important to me, i want it louder, but i don't want it to sound all supercrazyinsane or nothing. performance-wise, i'm realizing that any gains will be minimal. i just want to do something to this car, that's the main reason i wan
so my phase 1 plan is z-tube, jwt pop charger, and motordyne thermal 5/16" plenum spacer.
since i don't want to go too loud, i want to do one, see how it is, then do the other. from what i've read... it seems like claims to hp gains from the spacer are MUCH_MORE legit than from the ztube+jwt. is that right?
i picked jwt pop over cai options because i think it looks cooler, and because there's no performance difference between any of the intake options.... right?
the motordyne thermal 5/16" at motordyne for 235 seems like a good enough deal. the jtw+pop for 185 on ebay for 190 from performance nissan parts looks like the lowest price out there. any other places i should be checking?
thanks guys. can't wait to start this.

dont feel bad u got an Auto... when i picked up my G only two dealers in southern cali had any 05 6mt's and even then each dealer only had 2 and all 4 of them where 42k+... those kinds of monthly payments didnt fit in my budget so i went with the Auto, and my first car (01 Gulf GTI) was stick... dont get me wrong i LOVE driving stick and would rather my G be stick but 5AT isnt THAT bad at all... a lot of heavily modded G's on this forum are auto. Auto tranny's are more difficult to mod because there is less of a product base for them, however if done right ur 5AT can keep up with 90% of stick drivers out there no problem...
Try doing some research on:
Valve Body Upgrade
High-Stall Torque Converter
those are the two best mods to do to ur tranny, aside from a carbon fiber drive shaft but thats available to both 6mt and 5at.
as far as ur mods go, and ur planning on doing this urself... i dont know how mechanically inclined u are but the iso-thermal gasket is a B!TCH to get on, or at least i had a lot of trouble when i helped a friend with his... My Kinetix upper plenum was a breeze to put on and gave the car a much nicer sound up front coming fron the engine...
yes u r correct there isnt much a difference between z-tube / pop-charger and CAI. The cold air intakes have about the same power gains as the z-tube combo. The difference comes in the sound... the CAI will make ur car louder then z-tube combo just because most CAI's out for our cars are huge.
If i were u with $500 i'd do a new upper plenum, and it would be a toss up between the z-tube combo and some used HFC's (high flow cats). If anything u can find a used z-tube on my350z.com for something like $50 and u can get a K&N drop-in for around the same price.
