yeah i have a bunch of friends with e36 m3's and one of my buddies has a e36 328 with m50 manifold intake exhaust headers chip yadda yadda and he pulls on e36 m3's all day long its awesome. I think i recall the white e30 m3 but i came down with the norcal group and at the time i was driving my jazz blue 20th gti in fact if you go to the latest bimmerfest teaser vid you will see my blue gti in the trailer lol good times in SB

I thought about taking VDC off but when riding at that high of speed, I didnt want to risk having the rear end wash out undernieth of me.
Its all in good fun though. It sure does perk you right up. No coffee needed. (haha)
The biggest differance between an E 36 M and a G35 on the street IMO is the driver, and this is not meant to be a dig at Ralph0064 who is more than likely a good driver. It's just that lots of the BMW M boys including myself, have attended several performance driving schools and have many, many hours of track time. This is one of those deals where they will beat you in their car and then if you are so inclined, cars can be exchanged and they will be quicker in your car.

The Z4 wouldn't be my first choice for a street car. The suspension is a little too harsh for long trips. The Porsche Boxster gets it right since it offers outstanding handling and you can take it on a two hour trip without getting a stiff back.
