Replacement Fuel Tank!!!

I took my car into the dealer because sometimes when I fuel the G, the gas pump shuts off. I know alot of others have had this problem. They replaced the shutter valve 6 months ago or so. The dealer said that since they already replaced the valve, the only option is to replace the fuel tank. That is $1100 to replace, since I am out of warranty. Who the hell has heard of having a gas tank replaced????

you're already out of warranty? you must have a lot of miles on it.

regardless, they should still take care of it, since you had that same problem back when you were under warranty, and they weren't able to fix it properly.

you could try to push for it to be considered an emissions issue, which has a longer warranty coverage. you'd probably have to get help from your attorney general's office, if they'll help you at all.

good luck.

Fuel Tank?

It's not the fuel tank. If the pump at the gas station is shutting off while you fill the tank, then you know that the fuel tank is serving its purpose at the very least... which is to hold fuel in a pressurized fashion. The fuel tank does nothing more than that... it's just a cell for holding the fuel. The problem is probably your fuel filler hose again.... but definitely not the tank.

Only reason you'd have to replace a fuel tank is if it rotted out, was severely dented/cut/damaged from running over stuff which hit it as it passed under the car, or the mouting points for your fuel pump assembly were broken off or otherwise destroyed.

why wont you just get gas at stations that work like shell and mobil and not worry about this crap. My car will never fill up at certain station that have old pumps, but from my experiments shell and mobil always works

i just brought my car to the dealership last week for the same problem. i have an 06 and the dealer said they have to replace the filler neck and i think a valve inside the tank because of somekind of pressure or something that makes the pumps go off.

The last time this happened to me, I was fueling at Mobile. I from the picked my car up this morning from the dealer. They said that Missouri has a law that the gas pumps must recover the vapor released while fuelling. This apparently effects our cars on occasion. I talked to my mother today and she has this problem w/ her BMW. The dealer also said that changing the tank may not solve this problem. I think since this happens occasionally, I will not worry about it.
