Does this happen to your G??

Hey guys,

Recently when i full throttle my G in 1st gear, my car vibrates and pops (at the rear). It almost feels like my rear tires are slipping but with vigorous vibration and the car wont really accelerate even though the RPM is maxing out. Could it be my drivetrain(VLSD) going bad? Please HELP?

thanks!

is this at around 30 mph? do you have an auto or a 6 spd? other users on here have reported feeling the tranny kick back in between shifts from 1-2 gear in the auto. Dunno what it is...tho it is definately a kick back feeling - if that is what you a referring to.

It's most likely wheel hop. It happens sometimes, depending on traction, tires, pavement, and some will tell you that your suspension is bad.

are you dumping the clutch at high RPM? Does this happen in normal driving condition? .

i never dump my clutch, all i do is slowly release my clutch in 1st gear and then i will step on the gas aggressively and thats when my rear starts popping. It did not happen several month before, the hopping started about 3 weeks ago.

Plz Help!

What a coincidence. Same ordeal happened to me last night, while smashin' first. It seemed more pronounced after easing off the gas. Well, no biggie hasn't happened since after that. Good Luck.

It is for sure not wheel hop... He doesn’t have enough power to have wheel hop.. I think wheel hop is a more common issue for FWD cars not RWD.. Does this happen every time you go WOT in 1st gear?

Maybe not on dry, smooth roads, but I have experienced major wheel hop in my bone stock 6MT on slippery and irregular surfaces (but only if the VDC is off, of course). And anyone who has owned a 1960s-era muscle car -- yours truly -- can tell you all about how RWD cars can wheel hop.

I dont think front wheel drives get wheel hop as much as rear wheel drive cars. 300z's are known for wheel hop, and my dad 1971 buick GS has had wheel hop since he got his positraction rear end.

Why not...............?

This is possibly due to very poor street conditions.....filled cracks etc. A
change in the surface will break the tires loose and cause tire chatter or
wheel hopp. You might also be running to much pressure in your tires
not allowing the tires to plant/squat......no more than 37 lbs pressure.
I run 35 lbs in my Michelins without any issues.

No way. FWD cars can much more easily do wheel hops than RWD cars.

I have experienced wheel hop on wet road conditions, but not really on dry conditions with summer tires.
