How do you guys transport bicycles?

I'm seriously considering the G35 coupe, but the one thing holding me back is that my road bike wont fit in the car. Roof/trunk/hatch racks arent an option for me because they scratch the paint, so I'm wondering if any of you guys have cooked up a hidden trailer hitch.

The sales guy I talked to claims that Infiniti offers one, but since its not on the web site, I'm doubtful. Told him to get back to me with the specifics...

Thanks in advance for the help!

Re: How do you guys transport bicycles?

saw this in an email...

"Another option (and less likely to mess up bodywork) is to install a hitch system under the rear of the car to accomodate an upright hitch bike rack. My experience with "trunk racks" is they damage the paint and dent the steel. This is not good for your new car. The roof racks require you to lift the bike over your head, exposing the mount vehicle to all kinds of possible damage. An acquaintance killed his bike when it dropped from the roof of his Caravan. It also did about $400 damage to the vehicle...(broken window and deeply scratched paint). Hidden Hitch and Reese make reciever hitches that will accomodate a two or three bike rack, even though the car will only hold two.

Best option I've witnessed is to remove the rear tag and intall a hidden bike rack hitch, then mount the tag on the hitch/rack. A little bit of a pain, but it is nothing if you really want the G35C.

Re: How do you guys transport bicycles?

jdking - have you actually seen this "hitch behind the tag" implemented on a G35C? That sounds exactly like what I'm looking for...I just didnt know if it was physically possible.

Thanks for the other inputs too - elusive and g35girl. Due to the size of the bike (including seat, handlebars, pedals) I'm 90% sure it wont fit even with the wheels off. If that pass through is cloth with no metal behind it I might be able to open the hole up some and make it work.

I suppose it wont hurt to show up and try to cram my bike in the car on the showroom floor.

Take up skateboarding. A skateboard should fit in the trunk.

Re: How do you guys transport bicycles?

Try the BDI license plate backed mounted rack. Very popular with Miata and MR2 owners. I haven't tried it on my Coupe yet but I will next year.

Manufacturer's site http://www.bdiracks.com/bdiplate.html

but cheaper through distributors
