Yet another pricing question..

Hi All,

Finally joining the club!! (long time Z owner and owner of TwinTurbo.NET). Put a deposit down on a Twilight Blue/Willow automatic last week at Sewell Infiniti in Dallas. Went by Grubbs first, but the people at Sewell seemed more interested in my business and actually had what I wanted coming in a few weeks.

MSRP is $35,795 (all options but nav). They have come up with $35,000 even. From what I've read in prior posts this seems to be about in the middle of the road as far as discount off of MSRP.

Anybody have any thoughts or suggestions? Should I try and go for more off or get any other concessions like clearbra, etc.? Seems like these things are just flying off the lots (Go Nissan!!) so I don't want to end up holding on for something that isn't going to happen and have the car get picked up by somebody else.

Any suggestions/thoughts based on prior experience would be appreciated!

Greg (Dallas)

Re: Yet another pricing question..

honestly, i think anything off from msrp is good... there are tons of people who paid MSRP for it... but yet there are lots of people who got some discounts... personally, i paid msrp so... and also discount is depends on demand on your area.. it's like this... if you get off some from MSRP great!! if they want msrp no surprise.. i think you should take that car!!

From my experience, if you're in Texas and you can get them to come down at all, consider yourself lucky. But, it can't hurt to ask them to throw in things like locking lug nuts, and splash guards, etc. Even if they won't, i think you should be happy with $795 off. I'm in Houston and had to pay MSRP for my 6MT.

T_Bull,

No I got mine at North Houston Infiniti. They were the only dealership I talked to that would give me the time of day (I'm 25 but look more like 20ish).

Southwest was the LAST place i wanted to by my coupe from. The sales rep i talked to was anything but professional. I dropped by to test-drive a QX4 some time back and was left standing in the parking lot for no less than 20 minutes while the salesman went to "find the correct set of keys" for the one i was going to test drive. He never even came back. Some guy who wasn't even a salesman finally brought out the key and said that the salesman i had been talking to was "busy". I'll never go back there again!!!

Re: Yet another pricing question..

You did good getting something off MSRP. I’m here in Florida and there are no deals here. All the dealers are spaced far apart, seem like they are friends and therefore don’t compete.

I have the same problem as Brian_R. I'm 26 and look like I'm 20. I went to four dealers and no one took me seriously, especially when they come up to you and say, "Where's your parents?" or "This is not a play area”. I’m used to women turning me down all my life, but these are supposed to be professional environments.

I ended up paying MSRP at my local dealer (after changing sales rep). I even tried Grubbs, Riverside (both of which advertised on freshalloy) and 3rd party Autobytel.com that was the biggest waste of time. No one would deal, not even on the add-ons.

Re: Yet another pricing question..

i had a similar experience with ininiti of syracuse, ny a while back...very unprofessional and actually insulted me and my wife (both 26yrs old) regarding our purchase of a jeep grand cherokee ltd v8! told us sometimes you have to sacrifice to get a nicer vehicle (QX4)! shortly there after he left me sitting in the floor model g35 sedan mid sentence! anyway, the new sales guy at ininiti of syracuse told me today that they could work with me on some discount if i ordered one in the next couple months and the more options, the more they could move on the price...seems to me he is just trying to line up a sale for the next few months??? what do you think? anyway, just my .02 up here in the great white north!

Re: Yet another pricing question..

This is funny...to read about people that dealers ignored. I'm 31 but most people tell me I look like I'm in my mid 20's. I was completely ignored at two dealerships(Glendale and Torrance). I swear I have a job of reasonable responsibility and was ready to buy, and it was killing me that these turds wouldn't give me the light of day. I was even in suit and tie one at Glendale because I was on my way home from work. I thought I was the only one. There are a lot of young people in Los Angeles that have money. These dealers need to get their act together and pay attention to potential customers.

And yeah $800 off msrp is pretty good, but there are quite a few board members from northern east coast posting that they are getting $1K-2K off msrp on ordered cars.
