Let It Snow!

Hey I'm wondering if anyone else will be using their G35 Coupe in snowy climates? The last RWD vehicle I drove was in 1979; I'm afraid of handling of course & the cost of snow tires & such. I'm thinking the 18" rims on the Leather 6M are out of the question; I'm OK with a Leather 5Auto with 17s .. any thoughts, comments?

Thanks!

Yeah the Michelins that come on the 18" Sport Package are less than useless in snow. Don't plan on going far!

Re: Let It Snow!

there are tons of guys on here that have installed snow tires on 17's, 18's, even the stock 18's that had the michelons (costs around $1200 USD)
they all say that it is completely drivable, unlike with the michelons as Bigel stated above
just do a search (link at the top of the site) for snow tires and im sure you'll find lots of helpful posts

Re: Let It Snow!

OK i have the 5speed auto with 18 inch wheels. I live in cleveland and as u probaly know it snow infact we get a lot of snow. What had to do was get 17 inch wheels and buys snow tires. It was some what exspencive but it is better then trying to use 18inch summer tires in the snow. The car will handle pritty good for a rear wheel drive car. you might find your self taking the bus if it gets real bad. I would only advise you not to get 18 inch snow tires beacuse they are pritty crapy in the snow. Buy your self some cheap 17s for the winter and get the 18s for summer.

18 in summer = Fun, Fast, Balling

Re: Let It Snow!

I went from a Subary Legacy GT (AWD) to this car and winter driving was a big concern for me (live in Toronto). First thing I did when I got the car was have the 18's replaced with 17's and snows. The vdc takes over whenever the car wants to get out of shape and helps bring you back in line. I would not leave all season tires on this car though - go for the 18's and get a second set of winter rims with rubber.

Re: Let It Snow!

Thanks for all the advice. I'll probably be trying out both a 5A/T & a 6M/T tomorrow evening. Salesman said you can't put 17 snows in place of the factory 18s .. don't know .. but at least I'll try it out. My first pref would be 6M/T!

Dont believe everything the dealer says man.
You can put 17's over the brembos, you just have to find the right ones that will fit right.
Also, let us know what you think of the 6spd, thanks in advance

FWIW...my 6MT hasn't been out the the garage in a 8 days and I'm going through withdrawal. I have 2 other cars so I doubt it'll ever see snow/ice.

Re: Let It Snow!

I've got the 6MT. As per many threads both here and at Fresh Alloy, you have several options. I ended up getting 17" wheels and Blizzaks from Tire Rack. Was pleasantly surprised at how nice the wheels look (ASA KA3). Of course, the handling is not nearly the same with snows on, but it's only for a few months. As far as handling in the snow, I've been driving my 4WD when the weather is bad, so it's not fair for me to say, but I feel fairly confident it would be fine in a reasonable amount of snow.

Oh, forgot to mention, obviously, the wheels I got DO fit over the Brembos. But call Tire Rack. They'll advise which wheels will work.

Re: Let It Snow!

Well just back from trying out a 5A/T .. NICE! Man it handles like buttah! I loved the smooth shifting & the triptonic .. now I'm hooked, never thought I'd go back to an automatic. How reasonable is it to expect some kind of cut on the price? With the Prem Package & Sat Radio, MSRP is 34,665. I'm hoping to get them to take 33, maybe 32,5 .. now .. what color do I want!??!!??!!

Re: Let It Snow!

good luck getting the price down..... its hard to do and if you can manage to get at least $500 off, then you are a much better negotiator than 99% of us, get whatever color you like
i like red the best, but its gonna be my primary car so i cant risk the flashiness of red.....i live in michigan so black gets toooooooooooooooooooooo dirty, so decided to go with Dim.Graphite (DG) with willow interior
good luck, you cant go wrong with any of the G's colors
