Need a deposit when ordering?

I'm planning to order a new G in December. I heard that there's a deposit fee of $2000 when ordering and is nonrefundable. Did everyone who ordered their G have to pay this deposit?

No, I paid $500 and it is refundable. The most I have seen in this forum is $1000.

Re: Need a deposit when ordering?

are you looking to finance or lease? prepare for high monthly payments either way if you're looking to put a tiny bit down, but putting a tiny bit down is the smart thing to do if you're going to lease it.

$500 refundable for me too. Not that any sane person would need a refund.

Re: Need a deposit when ordering?

If a dealer asks for any amount over $500, walk out. In NY all contracts are refundable if the merchandise isnt delivered within the reasonable "promise" date. ALL NY contracts are cancellable within 3 days of signing. I agree with a past post - nobody has cancelled on one of these beauties.

Re: Need a deposit when ordering?

Deposit fees from my experience:
Grubbs TX - $2000
Riverside CA - $1000
Orlando & Melbourne FL - $1000

All the above dearerships were definately refundable. They are refundable if you decide you no longer want the car and after they manage to sell it.

I've heard other deposit amounts and may depend on your configuration (cloth/leather, at/mt, etc).

Re: Need a deposit when ordering?

I put down $2000 and then realized that it was a stupid move. You shouldn't HAVE to put down a deposit in order to get them to order a car. If you want to (per advice from edmunds.com) give them a check but don't sign it. They might feed you something like "Well, give me a deposit so I can show my sales manager that you're serious". That's BS. Even though the deposit is refundable I've heard of way too many stories where people have to jump through so many hoops just to get it back. It's just a way to lock you in so you can't go buy a car from another dealer. I just tried to find the article on edmunds.com but they took it down. Just my 2 cents.

I know I sound bitter (who me?) but my G35C was the first car I ever bought and the whole buying experienced just soured me on the whole process. I was a hard *** when I bought the car but now I pretty much despise car dealers. Wait till I have to buy the next one (hopefully a car that doesn't always sell at MSRP). Thanks ramble over.

Re: Need a deposit when ordering?

We gave them a CC to put a $1K deposit on my G, but they never actually charged us, (this was in AZ).

Re: Need a deposit when ordering?

I gave a $500 CC refundable deposit at ramsey infiniti. If you have to do it, do it on a CC.

Re: Need a deposit when ordering?

I put down 1k on my 6mt coupe (on cc of course) but managed to get them to take $500 off msrp and give me free oil changes. According to the salesman the larger deposit helped to get me those things.
Unfortunately when reviewing the PO contract I neglected to see the text "deposits not refundable". I thought they were always refundable. Hopefully it won't be an issue but I still don't feel too good about that.
